An indispensible course in the art of knotwork,
By A Customer
This review is from: Celtic Knotwork Handbook (Paperback)
I first opened this book with some trepidation - having had a great love of Celtic designs for some while, I was unsure as to whether I would be up to the task of reproducing them or - heaven forbid - designing my own knotwork. I needn't have worried. With Sheila Sturrock's concise yet detailed instructions, I was soon reproducing what look to be fairly complex pieces of work with relative ease - and it was not long before I was confident enough to alter designs to fit a given space. My house is now full of tins and boxes painted in designs from this book! I have yet to design my own pieces from scratch, but this is mainly because there are so many diverse designs to work from in the book, I have not yet felt the need to branch out on my own.At the back of the book is also a section containing suggestions and advice as to different handicrafts to which you could apply your designs - from paper quilling to knitting to pyrography... including many I would never have thought of. I can heartily recommend this book to anyone who has ever wanted to try their hand at Celtic Knotwork, or anyone who is thinking of taking an existing handicraft hobby in a new direction. I would never have suspected how simple it could be to produce such beautiful designs until I read this book.

Excellent book but the same as Celtic Knotwork Designs,

I came across "Celtic Knotwork Designs" in a retreat centre, and realised I had to buy a copy. This book (called "Celtic Knotwork Handbook") is exactly the same as the Designs book but newer so if you have one, don't buy the other. The designs are really straightforward with plenty of variety.

Simple techniques, beautiful results,
By Harold McFarland - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Celtic Knotwork Handbook (Paperback)
In the "Celtic Knotwork Handbook" Sheila Sturrock invites the beginner into the adventure of designing and constructing beautiful Celtic knotwork patterns. Don't be fooled by the simple techniques explained in the book. By first teaching how to plot basic patterns on a graph paper, she teaches the student the basic patterns and designs. From these basic beginnings the student then learns how to leverage those skills to create larger more complex patterns. In a matter of about an hour I was able to design and draw basic patterns easily. By the next day I could design and produce much more complex patterns and was quite pleased with the results. An enjoyable book that teaches one of the easiest methods to learn and create Celtic knotwork, it is a valuable reference as well as just plain fun. 9 of 11 people found the following review helpful:

I guess they're cutting publishing costs.,

I went to the store a few days ago to take a look at this book before I decided to buy it. When I found it I was a bit dissappointed in what I saw. It looks like the same book she made in 1998. It even uses the exact same cover only this time it is brown. Don't get me wrong, that is a great book and I use it all the time, but this book was about 2 inches X 2 inches smaller. I personally prefer the larger version which is 7 1/4 inches by 9 3/4 inches. If you don't mind the smaller size, it has been a wonderful reference. I also love how they illustrate both the two-dimensional line drawing and the final three-dimensional drawing side by side.

The Celtic Knotwork Handbook, a perfect book for beginers,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Celtic Knotwork Handbook (Paperback)
If you are just getting started, or have been interested in knotwork for a while, this is a great book! It provides historical information, diagrams, how to make circular knots, anamorphics, and more than 100 original knots, which include corners, borders, and motifs. This is the best keltic knot book I've seen.
