Product Description

Product Description

Few languages contain as many expressive, lyrical, powerful scripts as the two millennia of Celtic writings. This magnificent collection will prove enlightening to lovers of Celtic lore as well as practical to graphic designers. The hundreds of initials and alphabets shown here demonstrate a sweeping range of cursive pen strokes and decorative letters. The art of using initial letters to summarize the content of a book receives expert attention, and so do unusual techniques such as the triquetra, a three-pointed knot formed from three intersecting arcs; the diaper, the art of repeating geometric patterns; and the pelta, an abstract Celtic motif built out of triangles.

This book tells you of the different origins of the calligraphy, but I would like to see some instruction on producing some the artwork.

I bought this for the examples from 'The book of Kells', and was surprised by all the information contained in the book. Very well done.
