Breathtaking Designs 18 April 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
My reaction to reading this book, after the euphoria of actually obtaining an Alice Starmore, was to try and choose a favourite design from nearly all of them and anticipate starting it. Alas, most of the yarn is discontinued and there are so many colours in some of the designs that try as I might I could not match them to any currently available yarn. Some of the designs use fewer colours and could be attempted but the more detailed ones remain a distant yearning. I am glad I bought this book but very glad to have now realised that one might be very disappointed to pay the amount of money that some of the out of print Alice Starmore's command only to find it nearly impossible to recreate the designs.
I highly recommend this book, and if you have a stack of shade cards and a good magnifying glass you might be able to swatch up something similar. Otherwise, be content to approximate or stick to the designs with a few shades.

I was very happy to get this book second-hand, since it is out of print and unavailable almost everywhere else. And it is beautiful. Not only the patterns are gorgeous, the photography is lovely as well.

This was my first Alice Starmore knitting book. And it is unmatched by all other designers or knitting books. It made me buy another five of her books. The celtic collection is a compilation of one colour to thirty colour sweaters all of them timeless patterns. I have knitted the first one 10 years ago, and it is still a breathtaker. The collection includes sweaters for the whole family (children and adults). Patterns are for advanced beginners to real professionals. Beautiful fotos show the sweaters of various angles as well as details. It is no wonder that this book hasn`t gone out of print the last ten years.
