4 stars, the bonus tracks make it 5. 1 Jun 2006
By Tad Nastic - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I'm writing this review primarily as a repsonse to the last review (and for my opinion that this CD deserves a better review). Although I agree the original LP wasn't essentially a rocker (though Little Red Donkey, Too Much of a Good Thing, Seventeen, Her Emotion go in that direction), and is rather orchestrated (in the manner of "Love Is All Around," that is), it's still classic 60's pop. Then again, though, I have to admit, too, that I can't stand "Butterflies and Bees" ... That's what the "skip" button is for, I guess. At any rate, this IS the CD in the current series that contains the best of the bonus tracks: Easy Loving, Come Now, and Lover. WOW! "Come Now" is my favorite Trogg song of all time. It's like "Wild Thing" but instead of having a flute during the refrain, it has some french woman saying something or other in her native tongue. Maybe I'll learn the language just to find out what it is ...
Very enjoyable 4 May 2012
By Tnahpellee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This much derided album is very enjoyable. While I wouldn't say it's a 'masterpiece' the Troggs embraced the psychedelic era without losing their true identity; they were still lovable fools who didn't take the music biz too seriously, and for that reason 'Cellophane' is more enjoyable than many other albums of the time.

The only bad song is 'Butterflies and Bees'; it's a lovely song but the vocals lack charm, and although this 'almost' happens in a couple of the other songs, it never ruins them the way it ruins this song.

The best songs are 'Love is all around' as you knew, 'My Lady', a humourous love song with flute, and the rockin' 'Too much of a good thing' Rating 4 / 5
the bonus tracks make it a fourstar. 3 Jun 2011
By Michael P. Dobey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
On it's own this was one of the troggs most poppy efforts ,even with the monster classic hit 'love is all around' it still was far less rockin than the protopunk rockin' 'from nowhere' was by far. I like the songs here but it's just not as powerful. The bonus tracks have some great songs on here though and that brings this one up from a 3 star all the way.
