Charles Owen is not the youngest 'new' star, but that is all the more telling in the way he supports the cello in this ravishing performance. The Rachmaninov is self-recommending anyway, and both it and the Chopin are brought to life with the engaging and sensitive interpretations of these two musicians. These are deeply satisfying performances, bearing repeated hearings that uncover more delights each time. Highly recommended.
Charles will make his full London début at the Wigmore Hall in December 2002. On the basis of this recording, it will be a concert to remember
