I already had the celebrated Jacqueline Du Pre version on the 3-disc EMI set of favourite cello concertos
but when I heard, on classic fm, the 3rd movement of Haydn's cello concerto in C major played by Jian
Wang with the Gulbenkian Orchestra under Muhai Tang, I seemed to hear a lightness, a spiritedness, a "joie de vivre" (or Lebenslust) that I hadn't heard before. Might have been the superb digital recording of Deutsche
Grammophon rather than the actual playing, but whatever, I had to have it. And the other movements in no way
disappoint. I bought it for £3.26 including postage from Amazon Marketplace - an absolute bargain - and the seller's
service was first class.Ordered late Sunday night, arrived 11am Tuesday!
