Product Description

Latest optics in an ergonomic case

The dust cover of the lenses are secured to the casing (but can be completely removed); the covers of the eyepieces can be secured to the carry strap. The Granit binoculars are of course waterproof and shockproof, thanks to the nitrogen filling.

As well as the usual padded strap, a harness is also supplied to ease the load on your back.

Overview of Granite binoculars
  • Multi-layer coating Broadband coating for maximum light transmission and the highest contrast. Excellent colour fidelity with lively colour saturation.
  • BaK4 prisms with highly-reflective coating and phase correction- The high-quality prisms allow sharp pictures, the coating increases the light transmission for bright pictures. The phase contrast coating corrects the phase shift of the light rays and increases the contrast.
  • Focusing button, dioptre ring and adjustable eyepieces - made from metal for increased precision and long life.
  • Carrying harness - in addition to the deluxe carrying strap. The carrying harness takes the pressure off your neck and spreads the weight over your shoulders and neck. This means you can always have the binoculars comfortably to hand.
  • Carry bag

The title of this review says it all. When compared too my old set of bino's (a cheap pair of bresser 8x45 for about £50 if I remember correctly) the optics on these granite bino's make the old set look as if you are looking at something on a misty day. I kid you not!

The details in the tiles of a house roof are stunning, making these bino's very useful for checking the condition of any roof tiles/brickwork/satellite dish very easy. Recently I used these bino's to check the chimney of a friends house and it was very easy to spot the gaps in the brickwork. A builder was duly summoned and the chimney was made safe/rebuilt. It was in danger of falling if a strong wind had caught it, sending the chimney down into the roof over the kitchen area.

Of course, I bought them mainly for bird watching etc. at which they are excellent. They are certainly the best I have bought too date for clarity and overall quality of manufacture.

They do cost quite a bit of money of course and I paid about £300 for my pair (not from amazon) but in this case, you really do get what you are paying for i.e. quality.

I recently used them to check the image quality of a large pair of 20x80 'triplet' bino's, which also cost £300 (see my other reviews) and the granite made it very easy to see that the 20x80's were awful/faulty (they were duly returned for a refund)

These 8x42 are a little heavier than cheaper versions at this size, due too the type of glass (ED) used in the lenses (good glass is always heavier) but they are still light enough to hold with little or no 'shake'.

The angle of the image they give is also wide at just over 8 degrees (8.1 I think) making it very easy to focus on a near bird etc.

These binoculars are excellent value. They do what the description and reviews say. That's what you want from a product.
