3.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile but check the contents 26 Nov 2012

For aiming at anything smaller than the moon, a finder scope will save a lot of frustration. However, the mounting of this one is not sturdy so it will need realigning every time it takes a knock. I bought the kit for the spare lenses and the moon filter. The lenses seem quite adequate for the price. The moon filter was a disappointment but that was down to my misconception; I had expected something larger. On seeing the photograph on the box, it dawned on me that the filter is small and fits behind the eyepiece. Opening the box in the garage, with the telescope set up to align the finder scope, I never saw the moon filter. Did it drop and roll away out of sight? No, I'm convinced it was never in the box. So, open the box and check the filter is there - then immediately screw it into the back of one of your lenses for safekeeping.

If you have the firstscope you will need this accessory kit very cheap to buy.
more lens is a good thing to have and this also comes with a 1.25 moon filter.
In the past when i got just a moon filter it was more then this kit on it's own.
Buy it and have fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars hard to say but.. 24 Dec 2012

there's a few issues with this, for instance why didn't the finder come with the scope by default? why did they include an absolutely useless SR 4mm with the scope? ok .. so, this isn't a review of the scope but it's a factor!, the 6mm is better than the SR 4mm, the 12.5 is also very good, but both are only about the same quality as the 20mm that comes with the scope itself, the moon filter "does exactly what it says on the tin" but the main reason to get this is the finder scope, which is a little flimsy (pure plastic), also hard to calibrate, but once it's setup it's indispensable and you'll wonder how you managed without it!

1.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for 9 Dec 2009

i bought this because the optical quality of all the original eyepieces apart from the 20mm one are appalling. They are cheap plastic lenses which are hard to focus and a waste of money. Far better to save your money and buy a better scope / eyepiece in the first place. The software was useless on a mac, an it crashed. Use google earth night sky instead or the free stellarium. The spotting scope needs to be at the back of the tube - it's impossible to use.

An excellent adjunct to the Celestron beginner's astronomical telescope. The software is clear, concise and easy to use. The findersope is bright, easy to align and focus.
