This book's prequel "Brianna" is one of the best sci-fi erotic books I have ever read; therefore "Sheala" had plenty to live up to. The first eight or so chapters of this book overlap its prequel considerably; however the deeper character and emotional development as Sheala and Marljas take centre stage definitely grips the reader. We learn why Marljas and his family arrive on Drakan and the impact Sheala makes on him from their first meeting. Their immediate attraction is expanded on, as is the night they spend together following Sheala's eighteenth birthday, plus her kidnapping and molestation whilst in the hands of the despicable Dr Bakom and his cronies.

The remainder of this book centres on the effect Sheala's brutal rape has on her burgeoning relationship with Marljas, the wild-cat like Gattan warrior she binds herself to during her rescue. Growing up on the sexually liberal world of Drakan, until her traumatic experience Sheala is able to freely enjoy her passions with Marljas. Yet following her ordeal she fears any sexual overture; unheard of in the sex loving Drakian society. Marljas is at a complete loss how to handle the changes in Sheala and so decides to return home to Gattan with her; however the pair do not find the peace they need on Marljas' native world. Some feel that he has taken an unsuitable wife and others actually feel his new marriage will hamper their treacherous plot to assume power on Gattan.

Characters from "Brianna" are re-introduced and in fact certain individuals I found intriguing in book one; namely Beti the Aradab female (who featured as Brianna's body guard in "Brianna") and Soosha; the briefly mentioned Gattan female tortured by Bakom for over a year before she is rescued with Sheala both take on significant roles. We also learn more of Ban(dalardac) and his role as the "Monarch's Assassin", encounter the Pholola; the telepathic horse like creatures so revered on Gattan and discover the abilities of the Deslossians (the least mentioned alien race from book 1).

Like "Brianna" there are tremendously poignant scenes in this book and some red hot moments between Sheala and Marljas. I can only add if you loved "Brianna" then you should definitely try everything in your power to get hold of this book. "Sheala" is a wonderfully rich, action packed and passion filled love story and is as fantastic as its prequel.

If you are going to buy this book read 'Celestial Passions, Brianna' first as it sets the scene. Deals with the issue of the rape of Sosha and Sheala by the bad guys and how good will out.

Some repatation with the first book but it does not interfere with the story. Great finding out more about Denien and her family and planet.

I look forward to someday reading about Ban which I hope Judy Mays will write.
