Product Description

Product Description

Prize-winning wooden boxes are the subject of this beautifully produced, full-colour art book. The selection of boxes included is the result of a world-wide competition for placement in the 'Celebrating Boxes' exhibition held at Tullie House, England, in September 2001. Many of featured artists are American, but makers from 10 other countries around the world are also represented. The creation of fine boxes is especially interesting to woodworkers because it combines the skills of the painter, sculptor, and cabinet-maker all in one useful object. This is not a 'how to'; rather it is a source of ideas and inspiration for craftspeople.

About the Author

Peter Lloyd and Andrew Crawford are professional box makers. They are the authors of Making Heirloom Boxes, Book of Boxes, and Fine Decorative Boxes.

After seeing the exhibition that is touring the UK, I purchased this book.
If you need boxmaking inspiration this is the book to read, you have some very simple boxes to the totally bizarre and extreme.
Peter LLoyd and Andrew Crawford continue to amaze me with their box making skills, and they have included some unknown boxmakers for you to feel jealous over.
This book is full of stunning photographs of all the artists (boxmakers)they consider to be the best.
A few of the boxes reviewed are not what I would call quality woodworking, but who am I to question the undisputed UK experts on boxmaking.
The narrative is very well written, and gives a little insight into the lonely world of boxmaking.
