I originally borrowed this book from the library and found it to be invaluable. The photos are excellent and really inspire you to try different crafts and recipies. It has some really good ideas for parties, games and decor. I have recommended this book to several friends and most have been and ordered it! The only criticism I have is on the cover it says 'A year of British festivites for families and friends', the first celebration is Hallowen, which I beleive is an American celebration (even though it is becoming more popular here) and it would have been nice if the book included a St Georges Day celebration, as I think more people are reconising day this now.

I was curious and because I was able to get it at a very reduced price and thought I would give it a go. Well I am now onto my third week of cooking using the recipes out of it. I use cookery books to give me ideas and adapt the quantities as necessary. The results have gone down well, my son loved helping with the Victoria Sponge and even had some even though he normally doesn't touch cakes. It is easy to follow, the non foodie parts are interesting to read, and the photographs give a chintzy feel to the whole thing. I normally use Nigella Lawson's books but this has made a refreshing change.

I dont think this was written as a cookery book and so if this is what you want dont buy it. If you are looking for a book that explains tradional activities, food, crafts with in the U.K, recorded by season then buy this book (if you like pinterest this will be your thing). It has some lovely simple ideas to do with your family and friends and has some fab photos. My sister bought a copy and then I also bought it as we both enjoyed it. Ignore the critics they just chose the wrong book for them.

To be honest I was not expecting this to be a good book when I had a look but how wrong I was!
It's full of good ideas not just recipes but games and other things, for people who like getting together with family/friends.
I have given the book as a gift to other people and they love it.

This is a lovely book, full of ideas, beautifully illustrated and informative. Many of the phrases used by the critics to deride Pippa have been taken out of context. If you were not brought up going to glitterati dinner parties and just want some nice ideas for occasions with family and friends then this is a really lovely book.

A good read for fun inspirational ideas. I know this book has come under criticism in the press but many of the sections are well thought out and make for enjoyable reading and the chocolate cake recipe was a big hit.

It's always this time of year that I get my Christmas books out to look for inspiration and recipes. Pippa's book is one I go back to time and time again during the year because it's got so many ideas for yearly celebrations. There's games, homemade crafts and recipes. Some are very easy things from my childhood that I'd forgotten and am delighted to be reminded of. Others are a little more posh so I always feel that I've been 'stretched' to improve on my current repertoir when I read it. It's well written, researched and executed with gorgeous pictures and lovely ideas. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

I read most of this book over a coffee in Waitrose. I paid for the coffee.

It was most informative. I learnt that turkeys are quite large and therefore useful for feeding a lot of people at Christmas.

This is a turkey in every way but nevertheless hilarious.
