Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Cee-Lo Green Is the Soul Machine, the second album from soulful Atlanta rapper Cee-Lo confirms that, in the aftermath of Outkast's genre-defining Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, hip-hop is in the mood to totally bug out. As a founder member of the Goodie Mob, Cee-Lo was one of Andre and Big Boi's closest contemporaries throughout the 90s. His debut solo album, 2002's Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections was a slightly patchy affair, but on ...The Soul Machine, this falsetto-high crooner is back, this time bolstered by an all-star cast that includes Pharrell from the Neptunes, Timbaland and Ludacris. Like Outkast, Cee-Lo's greatest skill is his ability to brew good-vibe Daisy Age hip-hop, liberated party funk and classic soul into a bubbling, fermenting whole without watering down the distinctive flavour of any of his esoteric influences. The excellent "The Art of Noise" is an obvious starting point, Cee-Lo's cartoonish preacher drawl pitted against gospel choruses and slick Neptunes percussion. But perhaps it's the slower, more soulful numbers that provide the album's backbone: see "All Day Love Affair", or "My Kind Of People", a euphoric piano-and-brass number that recalls the lazy groove of Sly and the Family Stone's "Family Affair". This is highly recommended to anyone blissed out by The Love Below, or with a taste for the sweet sound of the Dirty South. --Louis Pattison

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Machine? The Heart of Soul, more like. 3 Jun 2004
Format:Audio CD
It's a bold assertion by Mr Green his claim to being the Soul Machine, and I suppose the question that needs to be asked is whether or not his new album backs him up. The answer, if you couldn't guess already, is: Yes- very much so. The sheer depth and width of ambition alone is enough to justify C-lo's claim and the fact that he so effortlessly achieves it makes him, in my book, a master of his art. I can think of no other contemporary artist who has at their command a pallete as diverse and all-encompassing as this (Soul, Blues, R&B, Hip-Hop and pretty much the entire history of black-American music). If it weren't for how soulful he is, I'd think C-lo was indeed a Machine. Amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars joy 18 Jun 2004
Format:Audio CD
This album has not come out of my CD player since I bought it. It's uplifting without being cheesy, and agressive without succombing to vain posturing. Musically, I think this is a more sophisticated and satisfying album than The Love Below (Outkast), although it lacks a mega-hit among its many and varied tracks. That said, the Art of Noise always makes me jump up from my chair and start dancing - surely no bad thing?

5.0 out of 5 stars We want the funk! 19 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Cee-lo Green is possibly the greatsest hip hop artist of his time. This album is much more mellow than the his previous album but twice as good! You can really see the musical influences (Luther Vandross, george Benson etc etc)in alot of the tracks and with a voice like cee-lo's, he can pull it off in the same way as the soul master himself, mr Al Green!!!

Buy, Buy, Buy this album whether your an avid fan or just wanna see if the hype is true, you won't be dissapointed!
