Some people look down on Vivaldi as not too serious. But he wrote some lovely music and, if his range is not the equal of, say, Handel, he is still one of the true baroque greats. This album is a real showcase - both of Vivaldi and Bartoli - but it is more. It is also just a lovely album to listen to ... and again and again.
Bartoli's singing is faultless: her voice beautiful, her technique masterful. It's all great fun. You can wow your friends - it's a classical record that won't bore your dinner party guests. If you loved the Four Seasons and want a second Vivaldi record to follow on with then this is the record for you (yes, it's that essential!). If you want an introduction to Vivaldi as an opera composer, then look no further. Not as scholarly as the notes try to imply ... but stunning music, stunningly performed.
