The above review from 'A CUSTOMER' relates to the Mozart arias on Erato NOT Decca which are really excerpts from her complete opera recordings. The Decca recording IS really excellent in every respect and anyone that enjoyed the various other discs (the two Rossini, Gluck, Vivaldi, Salieri etc.,.) should not hesitate to acquire it. The arias are mainly from the more popular operas and some concert arias which can be sung by a high mezzo soprano. One can hear the fun and teasing in the Zerlina arias which suit the coquettish character. However, my absolute favourite is her wonderful treatment of Vitellia's 'Non piu di fiori' from La Clemenza di Tito, a role she hasn't undertook on stage as yet but which she has all the requirements for including the solid chest register.

BUT .....avoid the Erato disc, not for Bartoli's fine singing which is top drawer, but for the poor recording quality.

I bought this CD because it contained an interesting and comprehensive selection of Mozart arias sung by Cecilia Bartoli. Although Bartoli is superb, proving herself as one of the best Mozart singers of our time, the recording itself is very poor. I was very disappointed by this recording, in which Bartoli's beautiful sound is drowned out by background noise. You have to struggle to her clearly what are fantastic performances of these arias. It has none of the quality of Bartoli's recordings with Decca. However it is perhaps worth purchasing only to hear what is in my mind, the best interpretation of "Voi che sapete " you will ever hear. Her interpretations of "Il tenero momento" and "Pupille Amante" are also excellent. It is just a shame about the quality of the recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stylish, definitive Mozart 12 Sep 2000
By Tom Williams - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
At a time when most mezzo-sopranos are doing local repertory and hoping for auditions, Cecilia Bartoli, not yet 25, recorded this album. This is a work which would proudly be referred to as the crowning achievement of many an illustrious career but, in this case, was simply a portent of things to come from the vocalist who may be the best Mozart soprano of our lifetimes. To hear Cecilia sing PUPILE AMATE alone justifies any expense. Her duets with Edita Gruberova are especially entrancing and make me wish I had been able to attend their performance live. Make no mistake, this is as fine a performance as anyone of us is likely to hear...even with Bartoli's other great works out there. Erato's MOZART ARIAS is a MUST!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Another flawless rendition from Mezzosoprano Cecilia" 23 Mar 2000
By VIJAY N CHAK - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
One of the finest singers of our times and yet sensitive to new stylistic trends in opera, Ms. Bartoli has created a repertory of exemplary works for more than a decade(Her "Rossini Heroines" is one of my favorites). It makes one wonder whether the talents she exhibits in singing Mozart's arias were expressly crafted to suit her. Her voice brings with itself incalculable depths of emotions and naturalness coupled with sincerity in rendition (Lucio Silla K135). Having performed under Riccardo Muti (La Scala) and Nikolaus (Le nozze di Figaro) this particular work does magnificent justice to her capabilities as a mezzo-soprano. After all, she can identify herself fully to the role she is playing. No wonder she is one of the distinguished Mozartians ....and everyone agrees to that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Bartoli 28 Oct 2001
By JohnL - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is some absolutely beautiful music by Mozart, sung wonderfully by Cecilia Bartoli. I especially love the two arias that have the obbligato for basset clarinet or basset-horn from the opera "La clemenza di Tito" K621. Mozart had already written the great Clarinet Quintet K581 for Anton Stadler, who had invented the bassett clarinet, with an extended lower range and warmer tone than the conventional clarinet. These are played very nicely by Peter Schmidl on this CD. But the highlight of this disc is the taxing Concert aria K505, with the added delight of an obbligato piano part, played with feeling by Andras Schiff. It is the best of both worlds: combining Mozart's exquisite piano writing, with orchestra, and his penning of heavenly vocal lines. Cecilia Bartoli delivers on all counts. This is an absolute MUST for all serious Mozart collectors.
