Product Description

Product Description

If only the Battle of Bosworth had not ended in a Tudor victory . . . Ah, but it did, unfortunately. So now, nearly five hundred years later, in the London of 1952, on the anniversary of Richard’s birth, events take place to right the terrible wrongs that have persisted since the battle. It is a short story of revenge and just deserts, transferring historic events of the 15th century into the 20th century in order to prod those who deserve to be prodded.

This is my first such foray into the great wide publishing world. I’ve emerged to speak up in Richard’s defence, because defending him entails taking well-aimed pot shots at his enemies. Well, his enemies as they might have been in 1952. Is there not a saying to the effect that revenge is a dish best served cold? Here is my helping of that dish, and while it will not restore Richard or really punish those who betrayed him then—and still do to this day—it makes me feel a lot better for having written it.

More About the Author

The late, great Dickie Broom is my inspiration. Alas, poor Dickie, I wish I'd known him well. But I have read so much of his fascinating story that I feel I really DID know him. Enough to believe he has long been the victim of a monstrous miscarriage of justice. So here I am, Battle Granny, ready to defend his reputation. With my fellow grannies supporting him at Buzzwuth - or perhaps some call it Bosworth - the outcome would have been very different. Just imagine it, an army of British ladies of a certain age, brandishing their knitting needles and crochet hooks, their specially modified walking sticks within easy reach.

That is really all you need to know about me. British, grandmother, ready for the fray...and willing to pull rugs from beneath feet of clay.

Read the short cautionary tale and enjoyed it but was surprised at how little I remembered of my history lessons so have purchased several volumes about the Plantagenets to study before I read again.
A good read. Don't go back to the knitting just yet, Joanie, I'm sure there must be more to come and I may get my History 'O' level at last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing and clever 14 Jun. 2014

Modern take on the Battle of Bosworth and its aftermath. The power struggle is transferred to a business setting and the author uses clever names that hint at their historical counterparts. Fresh and different

Witty and enjoyable.
As a previous reviser said, if you get it on the first page you'll understand the references and who the characters are.
A short story but any 'Richardian' will enjoy the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing and Different 10 Jun. 2014

A humorous little tale dealing with the Tudor myths about Richard III set within a modern-day context. Many novels are appearing at the moment that relate to Richard III but this story is just that little bit different and unique.
