Agnostic Front's debut 1984 album Victim In Pain set the standard, with its frantic 1-minute long hardcore songs, but is inevitably a bit rough around the edges compared with the bands later more polished output. The opening title track is one of the best songs the band ever came up with, but after that the album struggles to match that quality. When Victim In Pain is good it's excellent, but the tunes aren't consistently there yet.
1986's Cause For Alarm is much more polished and consistent, with a heavier guitar sound and longer songs. From the opening double bass-drum salvo there's also a noticeable thrash metal influence, though Agnostic Front retain their hardcore edge. One of the bands better albums. Another bonus with both albums are Roger Miret's shouty vocals, which are actually comprehensible, unlike the strangled yelp his voice would develop into.
Recommended.
