I have two cats, Remy and Josh, and they both love this item. Remy puts his front paws at the top of the scratching post and appears to hang on whilst kicking the post with his back paws. If he could speak I am sure he would say 'Ectasy'. Also, as the post is hollow it is an ideal place to keep their toys until it is playtime. Remy and Josh's previous scratching post was covered in 'hairy' string and when Remy scratched this it made him cough, this post however, does not make him cough when he scratches at it.

Maybe it's just my cat, but she won't touch this. I have tried everything to get her untested but she won't use it. The cord feels just like ordinary parcel string, so maybe it's that.

The scratcher base is plastic and absolutely looks it. It's very light so easy to topple, but you could fill it with sand or something I guess. We thought it would look nicer though, it's not something we wanted to put in our lounge.

Overall I am underwhelmed.

* cats hate it, falls over;
Far too flimsy;
Certainly wouldn't consider buying anything like again;
Have got several other scratching posts that are far better;
Would I recommend?- Abosolutely NOT !!!

I brought this based on previous reviews and to begin with I did really like it. It was a touch unstable and it does have quite a large footprint, but after popping a little catnip inside it to encourage the cats to use it, it worked well. Sadly, after only 6 months the string bound around it has snapped and the cats have gone back to the sofa! So I suggest people find something else.

Upon arrival, I found the rope on the cylinder was coming away and unravelling. It is only getting worse and more than just a cosmetic defect. I have bought similar products in the past and never had this problem. Most likely will return it as defective. Probably something to look out for if you buy this. Otherwise it looks nice and one of my cats was interested in it with some catnip encouragement

This car scratcher is too light, I had to fill it with shingle so it doesn't fall over. It is quite nice looking, although the base is abit unsightly. It is good that it doubles as a vase. Unfortunatly to date my cat has not used it.

Within half an hour of being put down to use, the rope began coming away. The plastic shape is made of very cheap plastic and does not look substantial and the thing itself is easily pushed over, it has no weight to it. A complete waste of money.

Over the last two years, our cats have destroyed three scratching posts and, in their eariy kittenish days, made a mess of doors, curtains, textured wallpapers etc as well. I'm sure you get the drift!

This is the most robust scratching post we've encountered. Bit it's not just strong, it's also attractive and superbly stable. How I wish we'd found one like this sooner. Highly recommended.
