I was looking for a quality leather-bound Catholic NRSV Bible which was not too expensive, and I found it in this Bible. It features the accurate NRSV version. What I like about Catholic Bibles is its inclusion of the deutero-canonical books (The Apocrypha) along with added chapters at the end of Esther and Daniel.
Features:
1) There is a Preface to the NRSV Catholic Edition and Preface to the NRSV Anglicized Edition
2) What makes this Bible unique is the very helpful "Beginning a Journey" Guide for Catholics in the front of the Bible. The contents are as follows:
How to Read the Bible
Bible Facts
Biblical Words
Witnesses of Faith: The Old Testament
Witnesses of Faith: The New Testament
Jesus' Parables and Miracles
Finding Our Roots: Church
Finding Our Roots: Belief
Scriptural Roots of the Apostles Creed
Finding Our Roots: Worship and Prayer
Praying with the Bible
Signs and Gestures of Faith
Finding Our Roots: Catholic Morality
Sources of Catholic Morality
Bible Reading Plans
Timelines of Catholic Church and World History
Maps
Introductions to the Books of the Bible
I found these Bible helps to be extremely useful in understanding the Catholic perspective of its roots, how to interpret the Bible, the Roots of the Apostles Creed, explanations on Catholic perspectives of Ethics, and explanations on Catholic worship (e.g. the Sacraments and the Stations of the Cross, Devotions and Prayers, etc.) (By the way, I'm Protestant and not Catholic)
3) There is a brief concordance in the back.
4) Imprimatur from Rev. Daniel E. Pilarcyzk and from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops
The only thing lacking in this Bible are study notes (as in the New American Bible)
The font is about 11 size and the text is in an easy to read two column format
This Catholic NRSV is a great value and it is bound in an attractive black leather cover. It is one of the least expensive NRSV Catholic Bibles available - yet with good quality binding and print. Highly recommended!
