4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and Haunting Read 1 May 2012
By Julia
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A very well written, haunting story about Catherine's current life in her new house, and also Katherine's life in the same house in the 1840s. Is there some connection between their two lives? All the characters are well defined and the story moves smoothly from the 1840s to the current day, the slight change in the spelling of Catherine/Katherine ensuring that there is no confusion between the two. However, I did find some events in the book were rather rushed - hence a 4-star rather than 5-star rating. Otherwise a good read.
I originally downloaded this book as it was free, but as I enjoyed it and Romanie Brooke's style of writing so much I now intend to read her other books. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Haunting Story 9 Feb 2012
By BCP - Published on Amazon.com

This is a story about a woman's previous life and all that happened to her.

To be honest, I have nothing to compare this book to. I have not read any other books along this line, so I will go with my impressions.

The story reads so smoothly...going back and forth from current day to the 1830/40s. I never found it confusing as to where or which Catherine/Katherine was being discussed.

I felt a strong connection to just about all the characters in the story, especially the heroine(s) and Daniel.

Souls are now at rest after much sadness and tragedy.

For me, this was a very good and different story. I think it will be with me for a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 27 Sep 2012

I enjoyed this book and read it in a couple of days. The writing style was a little 'simple' for my liking but I overcame that as I became engrossed in the story. The characters were likeable and more importantly, believable. I enjoyed the setting of a country manor in England and the author managed to transport me between times easily. I felt the last quarter of the book was a little hurried but by that time the tale had already unfolded and the reader could easily guess what was to come.

Overall a very enjoyble read with enough historical romance and time slip to keep me entertained.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart thumping goodread..such a surprise!! 8 Sep 2012

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was very believable, I was totally absorbed in the story which sent chills down my back at times yet I was unable to stop reading it because it was such a compelling read. If you are a fan of Barbara Ersksine or Susanna Kearsley and you love historical time slip stories with a good contemporary suspense, historical mystery and a feeling of the supernatural. You will love reading this book. I highly recommend it.
