Format:VHS Tape
Having read the book I was quite excited about watching the film. In most cases I have found the book better than the film. I have to say that this film was on par with the book. Its the type of film that you can watch again and again. Bridget Mordaunt is the heroine and certainly knows all about determination and hard work. Based in Northumbria, Bridget inherited her fathers blacking factory and as a young woman wins the respect of the workforce. It's perfect viewing for that cold Sunday afternoon when you want to snuggle up with the fire on.

Format:DVD
Some seem to think this is a good adaptation of the novel but it ends halfway through the book. There is no mention of Joseph, Lily's grown child who marries Bridget's daughter Amy.
The first part of the book is dated 1883, the second 1884 and that's where it ends. There are two parts which are totally missed out, the third part set in 1896 and the fourth set in 1903 which both deal with the next generation.
Completely disappointed with it.

Format:DVD
This isn't the best catherine cookson, which I believe is Tilly Trotter. I think this is a very violent film, but is well acted with Nathaniel Parker among the cast list. It is a bit tricky to understand at times, but the main storyline is good once you get the hang of it.
