I have a little house in Carcassonne so have been searching for a guide to recommend to my guests who will be renting it this year. I have been really disappointed with the usual guides, having visited dozens of times myself, I have never felt that they really get 'under the skin' of this lovely area and the town of Carcassonne in particular.
I was absolutely delighted when I received my copy of Trevor Park's book however. His true understanding and affection for the area shines through and his many practical tips for visitors would enable anyone to get more from their time there - whether a short stay or a longer trip. I really like the magazine-style layout as well, this is a publication you can fit into your bag without any problems and it also makes a great souvenir of your trip.
I have now recommended this book to all of my guests.

Just the right amount of information on practically every aspect of the region.Easily digestible with some well thought out Tours with simple cross referencing to information pages. Lots of pictures too !

I write to commend the excellent guide detailed above and produced by Trevor Park. Whether as a first time or repeat visitor to the region, there is a wealth of information to make the holiday visit a richly rewarding one. The guide is very clearly set out, broken down with helpful sections covering all interests, and much more .... Every visit to Carcassonne and Aude will be enhanced by the suggestions for day trips and activities. The photos and illustrations are of a high quality and draw the reader into the text. Although in brochure format of 60 pages, there is more information here than in many a larger book. Mr Park leaves the reader with many cross-references to websites so that further research can be pursued. He knows the area well and shares its attractions in a way that encourages the reader to want to make it their next holiday destination. Altogether the Guide is very good value as an introduction to what is obviously one of France's very special regions.

Not quite a pocket guide!
Whilst this book has undoubtedly a lot of information about Carcassonne and the Aude, it's in A4 format and not at all convenient to carry around - it doesn't fit in a pocket. Read more
