This book is an outstanding exception among lots of books concerning purchasing and procurement. It can organize and structure your thoughts about this topic and give you the whole overview how to think strategically , plan tactically and how to convert ideas into action. Many management tools from project management are well adapted to purchasing management giving you clear advices how to position your suppliers, you toward your suppliers and how to improve your position to be better leveraged and exploit all advantageous you potentially could have.
Highly recommended for all manufacturer and retail buyers.

To put it simply, this book is the best of its kind. There are many books written on the subject of supply chain management/procurement/strategic sourcing/purchasing but whatever the name, this book is well written and practical. It's one of those books that actually tells you exactly what its title suggests. It's straight to the point, there is no fluff or endless academic drivel and will be particularly useful for those who are new to the profession as well as those who have been in their jobs for ages but thought purchasing is nothing more than a large scale shopping for widgets. Definitely worth every penny I spent on it. I am keeping it and would highly recommend it.
