As another reviewer has stated that this compilation (mine is on cassette) is Donovan's first 2 albums released in the US. It is certainly not a 'Best Of' as it excludes all of the songs that we remember Donovan by (Barabajacal, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Jennifer Juniper, Mellow Yellow etc) which were to come later, but these are the simpler, purer songs before psychadelia took over. Nevertheless they are not to be dismissed, and some may find them more enjoyable than 'electrical banana is going to be the very next phrase.' Don't dismiss them because you don't know them. 'Catch the wind' must rank amongst the greatest songs from the sixties. The full track listing is (on cassette)

A Compilation of his first two albums.. 13 Aug 1999
By Ray Riddle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This is a compilation of his first two albums, "Catch the Wind" and "Fairy Tale" (in the US, anyway). If you've already got them, then you needn't bother with this. If you haven't, you can get both albums, with this one CD. A great collection of his pre-electric material. Well worth getting if you're into Donovan.

The definitive pre "Sunshine Superman" Donovan tracks. 29 Jun 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is currently the most definitive collection of Donovan's best and essential tracks recorded before his days at Epic Records when he was still on the Hickory label. These are the tracks that gave Donovan his original reputation as the Mystical Troubadour of the rock and roll generation. The love ballads, social and political statements all stand out here in their original forms. I still believe that "Sunshine Superman" is the definitive Donovan album, his masterpiece. But without these excellent tracks there would not have been a "Sunshine Superman." If you get "Best of Catch The Wind" and "Sunshine Supeman," you will have a well-rounded collection of Donovan's best work; not complete, but surely essential. It's no wonder Jewel is becoming known as the Donovan of her generation. She even recorded her own version of "Sunshine Superman," and you can hear his influence on her new album, "Spirit;" in the troubadour styles and sensitivity of her vocals, the mystical renderings of the instrumentation, and the ethereal quality of the arrangements. Thank you Jewel for reminding us, and thank you Donovan for still being there for us to discover anew.

A true if slightly naive ballad voice. 26 Feb 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Whatever Donovan might lack in late twentieth century realism, he makes up for in a much-needed tone of optimism. It is easy enough to point out the endless complications of the world, but a clear voice of hope, however naive some might see it, supplies something quite vital. Donovan's music recalls from adolesence qualities both delicate and worthy - the hope that the energy and morality of lessons learned from childhood, from fairytales, might continue into adulthood. Somerset Maugham once said something along the lines of a true artist always being moved by the tale of Tristam and Isolde, Donovan belongs to all those who still are.
