The Breckton Trilogy: An Unbreakable Bond, To Catch a Dream and Tomorrow Brings Sorrow.

Tell the story of the rich and the poor of Breckton - a small, fictional, mining town in Yorkshire.

Each book stands alone as a complete story, This novel is a prequel and can be read first or last, it is the readers choice. It gives the moving story of where and how it all began: An Unbreakable Bond and Tomorrow Brings Sorrow are a sequel and the fourth book: Time Passes Time, again is a stand alone book if the reader wishes, but is a spin-off of The Breckton Trilogy

TO CATCH A DREAM

Set in 1876-1900 This is a moving story of love, passion, and betrayal. It tells of Megan’s grandmother Bridie O’Hara who, as a beautiful young girl, is torn away from her native Ireland by her father – a freedom fighter, turned traitor – when he has to flee the wrath of the Fenians.

Violated by those who should protect her and betrayed by the dashing gypsy Seamus Finney who befriended her as a child, and is the love of her life, she descends into drunkenness and prostitution when she meets Bruiser Armitage a brute of a man who seeks to control her.

One man tries to save her, Will Hadler, Megan’s Grandfather, a kind, hard-working miner, whose love for Bridie knows no bounds. His rescue of her brings her happiness, but the demons inside her never give her peace.

When Will takes Bridie to Breckton she meets the young Issy, and finds in her a true friend. But Issy suffers many heartaches of her own and it is these that are the shaping of her. A strong young woman, she triumphs over adversity, but her quest to save Bridie, and Bridie’s daughter Bridget from the consequences of her mother’s actions, proves a step too far.

Andrew Harvey, Father-in-law of Laura Harvey and master of Hensal Grange, contributes to the downfall of Bridie. Andrew is forced to marry a rich young frump of a woman he does not love for the sake of saving the mine that he owns. But despite everything, he does find love with her. It is his arrogance and need for more than she can give that leads him to seek pleasure wherever he can get it and to break hearts and lives along the way.

More About the Author

So pleased to announce that I have been given seven book deal with Pan MacMillan! My first title, Time Passes Time is to be published in paperback and all other formats on May 22nd. A wonderful day for me.

About me: I was born in Maidstone, Kent, in 1945, the thirteenth child of fifteen children. Repatriation after the war saw my family re-settled in Leicestershire where my family lived in an ex-Army hut, specially addapted to house displaced families. I slept in a double bed with three of my sisters, but gradually made it to a bed of my own as each sister left to get married.

I was educated at St Peter's RC School in Hinckley, where one particular teacher, when setting composition titles, used to say to me: 'Mary Olley (my nee name) I want one page and one page only, not a novel!' And yet, another teacher, of whom I have fond memories, Mr Tom Payne, encouraged me to write all I could and even remarked that he thought I would one day be an Author! It took a long time, but at last I have achieved this.

Becoming a wife and mother I held various posts - office work, cleaning, licence trade, party planning, everything and anything to fit in with bringing the kids up. And moved house several times ending up in the North West and eventually taking up a late career in the Probation Service where I served ten years until I retired.

My husband and I (oh dear, that sounds rather royal!)have just celebrated our Golden wedding anniversary and now have a large family of our own. Three of our four children have married and have given us eight grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, five of these grandchildren have children of their own and great grandchildren are ever expanding in number...wonderful!

Amidst all of this, I write. And I love it. I love the planning, the plotting, the character building, the research and that tingly feeling when it is all coming together. I set out with a dream many years ago, now I am seeing that realised. To all my readers, I hope I do you proud. Please come along to Facebook -my page is called - Books by Mary Wood - and press the like button then we will have contact with each other. And follow me on twitter my tweet name is @Authormary. Make yourself known to me, I look forward to meeting you. Much Love xxx

5.0 out of 5 stars UNMISSABLE 4 Mar 2012

Anyone who has read "An Unbreakable Bond" will want to read this wonderful prequel to Bridie's story. I was captivated and totally enthralled, as chapter by chapter the tale unravelled. Certainly, a lot of questions were answered as to how Bridie's character was formed and her future pre-destined. I am now going to have to read An Unbreakable Bond again and cannot wait for the third book in the trilogy. I highly recommend this to lovers of a good story.

Yet again you succeed in making me chomp at the bit for the ending whilst panic ensues at what to do when i get there!!! Already reaching for my copy of an unbreakable bond to read again and relive the story with a new eye. Eagerly awaiting the third book mum, you make me so proud and blush at the naughty scenes (mother!!!). Although you may, when reading this review ,consider me to be biased but l assure you this is not the case , just know a very good book when i read one. As an avid reader it just helps that my mother is a great writer . If you purchase i know you will enjoy and hopefully leave a review as well.

the second book in the trilogy, the first being AN UNBREAKABLE BOND.
TO CATCH A DREAM is as exciting as the first book. it is great that it gives an insight into all the characters ancestors in book on. bridie and her mother are happy, mother dies, her father takes her over to england in the boat and on the voyage he assaults her, she is put into a correction home run by nuns.
seamus the man she loves promises to take her away to america. he went without her
poor bridie suffers a terrible life till she meets will.
seamus comes back to england, now a terrible man.
this book is fantastic, answers questions from book one (but could be a stand alone book) i cant wait for book three coming out.
MARY WOOD is a brilliant writer. every page is filled with love, hate fear and has no padding to fill pages. i would now put MARY WOOD way above my other faves eg jo cox, rita bradshaw, kitty neale and anna jacobs.
congratulations MARY on another brilliant book. hope book three is coming soon x
