Product Description

The modern cruising catamaran has arrived

The arguments are over and the verdict is in--cruising catamarans comprise a rapidly growing percentage of the cruising fleet worldwide. Their advantages of space, stability, speed, and handling under power are truly compelling, and modern cats are every bit as reliable as monohulls. This long overdue, in-depth guide will help you choose and cruise the right catamaran for your needs.

“An authoritative guide for novices and experienced sailors; the best book written on the subjects since the early 1990s.”--“Trimaran” Jim Brown, renowned multihull designer

“In Catamarans, Gregor Tarjan shares his enthusiasm for yachts with two hulls, based on years of sailing all types. An excellent introduction.”--Dick Newick, legendary catamaran and trimaran designer

“If you are contemplating spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a cruising catamaran, the small price of this book is probably the best investment you could possibly start with.”--from the Foreword by Charles K. Chiodi, publisher of Multihulls Magazine

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Tries to Convince You to Buy a Cat 25 May 2013
By Jerry - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book spent the majority of the time explaining why you should purchase a catamaran over a monohull. If you are trying to decide if you want to purchase a catamaran this book does a great job of explaining the differences between the two types of boats. If you are looking at it as a book to learn how to sail, maintain or use a catamaran then this is not the right book. Definitely not worth the price unless you you have no idea what a catamaran is.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great source of Information on Catamarans 12 July 2014

Great source of information on Catamarans. If you are thinking about moving to a Cat from a Monohull, its worth reading.
When your done with this book, you should feel much better about the myth that catamarans flipping over easily. It's possible, but not likely with new designs and proper sailing.

Enjoyed all of the piratical information. Especially the information on increasing the apprentice wind speed and how to trim the sails
4.0 out of 5 stars Great read 6 Feb 2013

A great all round book on Catamaran sailing. For me though a little too much on the luxury end of the market - hence only four stars.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Subject Coverage 17 Jan 2013
By Brendan F. McSheehy Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author covers his wide range of experience in a highly engaging style. He "thinks out loud" so we get to know the whys and the why nots through each of his topics. For myself, new to the subject, this has provided many useful insights and added excitement to pursue further.
