5.0 out of 5 stars Confident and powerful second album 30 Sep 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The second album from Australia's Dead Letter Circus is a highly energetic effort that rarely lets up during it's course. It is similar in sound to their debut album This Is the Warning but has greater consistency from start to finish, something that their compatriots Karnivool failed to achieve with Asymmetry

The sound is big and although the production is polished, there is a lot of raw energy coming from this band. There are lots of guitars ringing out at a high tempo and the rhythm section is versatile, laying down some amazing drum patterns and pulsating bass, particularly on lead single Lodestar.

But what truely defines this band is lead vocalist Kim Benzie's powerful falsetto vocals which are a perfect compliment to the frenetic sound that his bandmates are playing.

The lyrics are also informative and reveal a band who are very conscious of political struggle and environmental concerns. Thankfully it's a bit more subtle than U2 and if you want to just rock then this album does just that.

4.0 out of 5 stars More great Aussie rock 4 Jan 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Why does Australia seem to have a lot of great rock / metal bands at the moment? Although DLC are not as breathtaking and challenging as countrymen Karnivool they are really adept at putting out songs that sound built for stadiums even if they are unlikely to ever achieve that status.
The tunes on this album are carried by some almost U2 style guitars (with more balls than U2 have managed for years) whilst keeping some big rock / metal poise and riffs to the fore too.
Look forward to seeing where the next album takes them as I think with a little more experimentation thrown in they could be unbelievable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catalyst for burning music! 10 Aug 2013
By Michael - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Dead Letter Circus return with their highly anticipated new album and it is a strong collection of epic songs featuring their signature powerful groove drenched in delayed guitars topped off with soaring falsetto vocals. Produced by Australian sonic master Forrester Savell (Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect) and mastered by the world renowned Ted Jensen (Muse, Green Day), The Catalyst Fire sounds amazing and follows the style of their acclaimed debut album This Is The Warning whilst adding some interesting twists. Adding some keyboards into the mix has helped to form a bigger and more layered sound in addition to providing some electronic textures to the band. Overall the songs are much more memorable this time, the musical performances are a little more orchestrated, and the vocal melodies are much more distinct. Highlights include the building intensity of "Alone Awake", the awesome production and interesting sound mix of "Lodestar", the massive chorus riff and memorable ending of "Say Your Prayers", the awesome groove and drumming of "Insiders", and the killer closing track "Kachina". Despite the change in guitar players on this album, Dead Letter Circus have made a good leap forward from adversity and taken their style to the limit to produce a quality Australian rock album. The Catalyst Fire is highly recommended to fans of Karnivool, The Butterfly Effect, and COG. By the way, check out that cool album cover - 4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get The U.S. Release With Bonus Tracks! 22 Oct 2013
By Jack - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I am just writing this review to make sure people will find the U.S. release of this album since it doesn't pop up in normal searches and Amazon has still not corrected this issue. The U.S. version of this album (which can be found here Catalyst Fire) contains two acoustic tracks of 'I Am' and 'Lodestar' plus the awesome song entitled 'Wake Up' which was previously only released digitally. If you are a fan of Dead Letter Circus in America, please make sure to purchase this (much more reasonably priced) version of the album. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Really 16 May 2014

This is not really my style of music. I like heavier rock, death metal, aggressive music. This is very easy to wrap your head around and will be accepted by pretty much anyone who is into rock music..why? Because the groups is just good. The lead singer has a great voice and the instrumentation is very good. Also, the melodies and hooks are very catchy and well crafted. The best part of the entire piece is the lyrics, they have meaning and a message, this band stands for something. It's a very good album.

Pretty solid album - in keeping with style of other albums. Worth acquiring a copy, especially if you can get it cheaper.
