As a young 'un I loved Rolf Harris, with his array of bizarre noises and his Cartoon Club ("Y'can join today!") and I also loved nonsense poetry.
I bought this book when I was nine years old and I loved it, there was one poem about being nice to grandma which I couldn't read out loud because a particular line creased me up every time. There are poems here from all the major childrens poets up to that time, including the great Michael Rosen.
It's great when a child can read a book and have tears in their eyes through laughing, this is a book which will inspire the creativity in a child and hopefully get them to write some comic verse of their own.
Illustrated by the great man himself and with warm introductions to many of the poems, this was a childhood favourite of mine which will stand the test of time.
