My Cat Just Sleeps is a charming and funny book that's destined to become a popular favourite amongst preschoolers/reception aged children alike, although be warned - your child will probably campaign for their own cat!
As a good children's story should, it works on many levels: it tells an amusing tale (one that even a young child can appreciate); has a repetitive refrain they can chime in with and really cleverly rendered and funny drawings that we both laugh at together. Along with Peepo, Percy the Park Keeper & The Tiger Who Came To Tea, this is a firm family favourite in our house.
"My Cat Just Sleeps" about a cat that has obviously been watching too many Bacardi adverts! We have a guest cat that behaves like this, too - sleeps all day and then spends the night on the tiles. The little girl in the story is very puzzled - all her friends' cats do lots of interesting things, while her cat, well…. just sleeps. We do find out at the end what it is that he gets up to, but the poor little girl never does! This a good book for teaching children to read as it contains non-boring repetitions of words.
