Book Description

14 Oct 2010
Many of us live stressful lives, so we deserve a home that delivers no-fuss style for comfortable living. "Casual Living" puts such a goal firmly within reach. In the first section, Casual Style, Judith maps out the three facets of the look - Country Casual, City Casual and Seaside Casual - so you can identify the style that suits you best. Next, Casual Elements focuses on the different ingredients that come together to create the perfect home. In part three, Casual Rooms, Judith shows how the style translates to every room in the house, from Relaxed Kitchens to Soothing Bathrooms and Cosy Sitting Rooms to Tranquil Bedrooms, taking in Children's Spaces along the way. We can't all achieve the perfect, stress-free life, but in "Casual Living" Judith Wilson will inspire you to create a practical, welcoming and comfortable home that you'll enjoy and appreciate every day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully inspiring 17 Feb 2011
By trishthedish TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I asked for this book for my birthday and was not disappointed by it, it's beautifully inspiring with pictures which are joyous to behold. I love the casual style depicted in it, such an antidote to many magazine looks which can appear either very staged, stiff and formally middle aged, or too high st and over co-ordinated. Some of the houses are more original looking than many we live in, but I think that missses the point. A casual style, as indicated here, can be adapted to almost any house, old, new, one-off or bog standard housing estate. The main thing that comes across to me - is make it individually yours, put out what is important to you as a person. Hence casual can go from a country look to a city look and everything inbetween as this book illustrates so clearly. I love the way that styles are mixed up within the framework too, much closer to real life and that making it yours again. So, contemporary paintings are put next to much loved old family china and so on. Things of some financial value next to items which have no financial value, just important memories - but both are much loved for different reasons. Some of the kitchen units look as if they come from Ikea and other high st shops, not special at all, but nonetheless they become special when dressed with the things you love.If you like a comfortable but casual look which never falls into precious, then this is a book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the book I've been waiting for. 15 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover
We've been flipping through lots of interior books in book shops as we are planning to buy a family house, and this is the first book which we instantly knew that we were after. I love this book - lords of practical tips to make home comfortable, cozy, and child-friendly, but without compromising with style and character.
The source list is handy, too, and we have already been visiting the shops recommended.
It helped us conceptualize and articulate the interior we are after. Highly recommended for real-life planning.

I have quite a few of Judith's interior books as I like her practical writing style and most books relate to normal people with normal lives. I've got to say I was disappointed with this one - maybe as I had high expectations.
It's a nice book to pick up and look at - but I don't think it's highly original - It shows lots of lovely pictures of unusual, stylish homes that aren't really your everyday, so can be tricky to relate to. I didn't feel the desire to read all the book, what I had read didn't tell me anything new.
So basically, I nice book but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Artistic innovation 7 Feb 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love this book!

I'd describe it as country casual with an artistic twist. Admitedly, this creative twist isn't easy to realize - one must either be very innovative or hunt for unusal objects. However, the resulting interiors are relaxed and comfortable but with exciting, dramatic focal points, something I love.

For me, a step above the usual interior design book. Very inspiring.

Delighted with this book, just as expected with good illustration, very impormative and will help to form an invaluable part of my reference library for interior design.

2.0 out of 5 stars not particulary inspiring 8 Mar 2011
Format:Hardcover
This book basically features alot of rather messy-looking rooms that not many people would want to copy in their own homes. I will be returning this book.
