When my son was born I saw these casts of a baby's hands and feet in a case on the hospital wall and thought they looked great. Preferring not to pay a 'professional', I decided to try a DIY job and I must say I am really pleased with the results. I got the kit when he was a couple of months old, but didn't get round to using it till he was 5 months old, so the bags and cups suppled to do the casts were I thought a bit too small, so I used a margarine tub as suggested in the instructions and it worked well.
The instructions looked a little complicated at first, but actually its very easy to do. Use ratio 1:1 of alginate powder to water and mix quickly. Pour round the baby's hand/foot and wait for 60 seconds and then wiggle the limb free from the mold. Tip: work quickly, but don't panic. Plus you need two people, one to hold the baby still and the other to do the casting. Mix up the plaster paris and pour in. When set, carefully break the mould away and then paint the cast when dry. Looks great!
There is enough mixture for at least 12 casts as advertised, but the longer you leave it, the bigger the baby's limbs become so you may get less.
Good value for money in my opinion!
