This book came out in 1968 and I picked it up at a bookstore a few years back. The writing like all of hindley's books is very clear and to the point. The man wrote quite alot of books about the middle ages to be sure. This was part of the great buildings of the world series and it's designed to be a fast overview of selected castles like windsor and others. The pictures are all in black and white throughout this is your typical coffee table book. Generalized accounts with stories etc and it is not a in depth how the built them archeological book. But then this is just what your shelves need for a fast read about some interesting Europeon Castles. You get enough details in here to find out about the author's chosen castles in a general manner and that's what you'd expect from such a book. It's written in that style that would be familiar to anyone going to the library and looking for a book about castles with lots of pictures. Which only adds to the fun for most of us probably when we perk up our interest in castles.
