Product Description

Product Description
The authors of this text argue that Britain's membership of the European Union is turning out to be a catastrophe on a far greater scale than our politicians or media have been prepared to recognize. The once admirable dream of a united Europe has in practice been hijacked by a bureaucratic monster. The book suggests that as Brussels-style regulations reach ever further into every area of British life, nothing is spared - the London double-decker bus, Britain's air safety rules, even the British oak tree, while industry is threatened with confusion and chaos. But the authors argue that behind this lies an even greater disaster, suggesting that Britain's politicians have been reduced to helpless puppets by a form of government which is entirely new. The country, according to this book, has passed under the rule of a political system which is no longer in any meaningful sense democratic, where much of the law takes the form of edicts issued by officials in Brussels or Whitehall without any political control. The authors have spent two years examining the "Euro-system". Economically, politically and psychologically, they argue, it is now inflicting so much damage on Britain that the only course is to leave the EU.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Shocking History of Euro-Domination, 29 Jan 2001
This is a shocking account of Euro-domination from Brussels, and the incompetence of The British Government in implementing EC Directives. Everyone should read this; it explodes the Euro-Hype. Be warned, it makes startling, and upsetting, reading. The sooner we leave the EC. the better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bureaucracy in control (out of control), 31 May 2001
By A Customer
The dedicated research put in by Booker and North rewards us with a gripping account of how European and British officialdom can now impose laws and regulations without the involvement of elected bodies. I could not put this book down but it is not for those who want to read for pleasure. This book will introduce you to a science-fiction world where the common people are in thrall to a bureaucracy which hides its power behind a charade of democracy - but it is nt fiction.

2.0 out of 5 stars You choose to read what you want to read., 17 Jul 2004
Anyone familiar with Booker and North's columns in the Telegraph newspaper titles will know what to expect from this book.

The amount of research that the pair have done for this book is amazing, and I do not envy one bit the task of trawling through the endless heap of European directives, but sadly this attention to detail makes it rather heavy going. Even as a Politics undergraduate I struggled to finish the book, and as someone naturally suspicious of the EU I found myself put off by the tone of the text. It is quite simply too heavily biased - we are never in doubt as to where Booker and North stand on the Euro spectrum, but I see little need to hammer the point home so fervently - in parts you might think you were reading something in the school of Michael Moore.
