Product Description

Seventeen-year-old Karis Singh’s little brother is dying and the Corporation’s Analysis has concluded that he’s not worth saving. One thing is stopping her from going into the city and stealing the medicine herself—the tattooed Mark that physically bars her from entering. The only way around that is to get it altered in the Black Market— an act that carries the possibility of a horrific and slow death— but will guarantee her the access she needs.

Willing to do whatever it takes, she accepts the help of the mysterious Ethan, a boy with an agenda of his own and who knows too much about the enemy. As her time in the city passes, dark secrets are uncovered about the Corporation and what really happened to her brother. When the tables turn and the stakes get higher, Karis is forced to align herself with the deadliest beast of all, risking everything in order to save those she loves.

Now, the most treacherous part of Karis’ plan is staying alive long enough to make it back home.

I am very impressed with this new author. The attention to detail tugs at your imagination letting your mind create pictures as the story unfolds. With unexpected twists and turns in the story you just can't put this book down! I can't wait to read more books from her!

A good book that makes you want to keep reading even if that means you stay up all night. I loved the characters and enjoyed the trip of discovery Karis makes while trying to save her brother. I look forward to the next book.

SPOILER ALERTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The author had really strong writing skills regarding imagery. Unfortunately, the characters and the plot did not make any practical sense...leading to a very disappointing middle and ending of the book.

For example, Karis has a tough time trying to figure out who Ethan really is.

She also blames her mother for abandoning her own children and husband, but Karis didn't even write a note stating where she traveled to (or why she left home) when she took off to save her brother on some really lame, nonsensical plan to save her brother. Her Dad automatically forgives her. She insists on going to a fancy costume party because she "should be there" even though it can cost her the chance of getting her brother's medicine, AND Ella actually lets Karis go to this party when Karis does not have any experience with the upper class and can jeopardize the safety of everyone involved against the Corporation. Treatments
"magically appear" at the last minute. Ethan doesn't bring back up money when he escapes with Karis, but he has spare needles in his backpack for suturing himself. No one tries to escape to the Further even though the Corporation/Akin Hughes knows exactly what was going on and who was involved.

Several spelling errors, ie. your instead of you're and vice-versa (which is not what made me give 2 stars)
