Construction & Design: I love cardboard constructions and found this irresistible. The instructions are reasonable: general guidance on how and in which order to do things. It took me a good 30 mins to put the whole thing together. I had only a few sticky bits that weren't quite flush and needed cajoling. The only design flaw I found was the 'dormer windows' on the roof: once I slid their two side tabs into the roof, the bottom tab was well short of its slit in the roof (about 1cm), so they're just resting on their bottom tabs.

Dimensions: the window drawers on the long sides are generously sized (4.5cm wide x 6cm deep x 3.7cm high) while those on the short sides are less than half that depth (2.5cm) in order to fit internally. The doors are taller (4.5cm wide x 4.7cm deep x 7cm high). The dormer windows are diagonal boxes for which measurements won't help! Overall the constructed house is 25cm long x 17.5cm wide x 25cm high to the chimney top. The platform it sits on adds an extra 2cm all the way around.

Practicalities: I plan to fill my drawers with scrumpled tissue paper around the gifts as otherwise, if upturned in the post, the contents will spill inside the house. The house will entirely de-construct to flat A4 envelope size, which is great for reusing, but I expect deconstructing will take some time too.

Overall: if you have some time and enjoy building this sort of thing it's a good example; if you're short of time - and you will have to buy mini gifts and fill the drawers with them - don't give yourself the hassle!

I was after a wooden advent house really but couldn't find one anywhere so ended up buying this instead. The building instructions were easy to follow and you don't need glue scissors etc. Putting it together was simple and all of the pieces fit perfectly. It's a great design all-round.

The drawers take a couple of chocolates in each and if you get some tissue paper to wrap them in, prying eyes won't spoil the surprise! Some of the drawers are big enough for a toy as well as chocolate - we had a small selection of plastic dinosaurs, rings etc from the local toy shop - just bear in the mind that they need to be small enough.

The kids loved it and it makes a fantastic Christmas display, rather than a flimsy looking mass produced chocolate calendar! It spends the rest of the year in a plastic bag in the loft waiting to be brought out again late November - no re-construction required :) Can't wait. Highly recommended.

This was very easy to put together and looked really sweet. It was a perfect size for little Christmas treats.

From all the previous 5 star reviews I had high hopes for this, but I was just a tiny bit disappointed.
Overall, I do like the product and it does what it is supposed to do so I would still recommend it.
Somehow I got the impression from the word 'cardboard' that it might be thicker stronger cardboard, and I was disappointed to find that it is more like thick paper.I worry that it will not be as sturdy or long-lasting as I would hope.
Putting it together was not as easy as I imagined either. Not bad for an adult with nimble fingers, but I had told my 6 year old son he could help, and he found it too difficult to manage. Disappointment there as you can imagine.
Like a previous reviewer has said, the dormer windows don't fit very well.
On the plus side, the construction is much stronger once all the drawers are in place, and these slide in and out quite well. They are quite spacious, so you might want to plan for larger treats than the chocolate coins I normally put into advent calendars.
It looks as pretty as in the picture and my son loves it.

One of the most annoying things to have on the sideboard - as the boxes keep falling inside the house.

This item came through letterbox - I wondered if it would be large enough! However, after spending an hour and a bit it transformed into what you see on the picture. It is a lovely item - the only little problem was (as another buyer pointed out) that the four windows in the roof have a slot that does not match up - I simply made new slots for them. Everything else went together exactly as per instructions and was quite enjoyable watching it take form. Highly recommended.

I love this advent calendar now it is made and filled with treats. It looks great and is sturdy enough. It took my sausage fingers over an hour to construct, although I did have a 4 year old 'helper'. I can't imagine wanting to take it apart again to rebuild for next year as its fiddliness led to lots of unseasonal swearing during construction (once the 4 year old had lost interest and left the room). Also it may not survive the reconstruction as it would be quite easy to damage the tabs. Re the people that mentioned a problem with the roof windows, they do fit into all the slots you just have to slide the two side tabs forward (downwards)before you put the final one in. My kids are so excited by it that it was worth the effort.
