5.0 out of 5 stars All encompassing excellent quality piece 7 Oct 2010
This is an excellent watch. Casio logic is normally not quirky and the consistency of operation is reassuring, reliable and easy to master with this piece. I've had this watch for a few months and have been ski touring, yacht sailing, climbing and hiking with it.

The functions:
Compass - very accurate IF the watch is flat. You get better at taking readings but I am satisfied after comparing it to a standard compass and rely on it when hiking/ski touring in fog/cloud etc. Sailing wise it is useful and use it for quick bearing checks.
Barometer - the most useful feature. Perfectly accurate and comparable to a professional sailing barometer. The barometric history is brilliant and provides a good view of what has happened hence what may happen going forward. It takes readings every 2 hours automatically. Truly brilliant and a reason to buy the watch on it's own.
Altimeter - a barometer based reading it is as accurate as it needs to be and I have used it along with the compass reading to aid positioning in fog/cloud when on the hill. Slightly unsure as to why you'd track your progress as the screen size is a bit small and you can't change the scale.
Thermometer - as with all these watches it reads the temperature on your wrist... but useful if you take it off when you wake up in your tent to see if you need that extra layer of thermal.
Tide Prediction - VERY useful in British waters as you can set the actual high tide time to local/reference port and makes tide prediction easy. I don't rely on it but it's great to see when you have to leave lunch for instance to get back before the turn. Obviously less use in the Med...
Moon Phase - also very useful as it drives the tides but without GPS capability it's not perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pro Trek PAW1500T 3 Sep 2010
By RobC
I bought this about a year and a half ago, and it has not been off my wrist since. I bought it to replace an earlier PRG-40 pro trek, and the additional expense for the titanium band is worth it for the feel alone when compared to the resin strap on the previous model.
When wearing, it feels much more solid than the PRG-40, and becuase it's solar, much thinner too. You also don't need to replace the batteries (>£60 in the PRG-40!), and the radio setting of the time overnight works faultlessly too. I've had occasion to try that feature in the US, China, Africa & Europe, and so long as you set the region, there's no problem.
The only thing it misses compared to the the PRG-40 is the minimum altitude record, hardly a big deal. After 16 months of sailing, cycling and everyday wear, it's still unscathed.
You buy a watch like this because you want the features. If you're tempted, I'd say go-on, as you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! 19 May 2012

Verified Purchase
I have amassed a small collection of watches over the years, and used to enjoy choosing which one to wear on an almost daily basis, but now the choice is VERY limited. The Casio is a superb timepiece, and although not 100% accurate as an Altimeter, (provision has to be made for barometric pressure changes) it gives a fair indication. I have owned it for almost a year now, I love this watch, and never take it off.
