Product Description

Product Description

Based on the original DW6900, G-Shock's best-selling case design, this Casio G-Shock is modernised with a Tough Solar, radio controlled movement, giving it split second accuracy, perpetual calendar, as well as the usual G-Shock strengths such as alarm, chronograph, backlight and countdown timer. The watch fastens on a black rubber strap.

Casio G-Shock

Casio G-Shock

A 10-year battery life, 10bar water resistance and 10 m dropping G-Shock resistance. These were the three requirements of the ‘Triple 10’ concept that led to the development of G-Shock’s shock-resistant structure. The rugged shape and robust styling originated with an engineer’s brief calling for an ‘unbreakable watch’.

Since its birth in 1983, G-Shock has continued its unrestrained evolution while retaining its unique structure and has continued to push forwards technologically too. It has produced versions that resist freezing temperatures, high water pressure, magnetic fields, centrifugal forces and radio-controlled technology that constantly makes sure they display the correct time wherever you are in the world.

It’s not just technology that’s been a strength for G-Shock over 30 years though. The G-Shock is also about functional beauty and fashion-wise the brand has worked with renowned artists and tastemakers over the years to create some outstanding collaborations, including Maison Martin Margiela, Eminem and Maharishi to name but a few.

I had my previous G-Shock watch for years and years and so went the strap finally gave up the ghost I started looking for a new one. Eventually I found this one, and it is great. Solar powered so battery will last years and years which, when you consider replacing the battery buggers up the water resistance, is a very good thing. It is also radio controlled so it is always accurate, and despite the instructions stating the watch needs to be near the window, or in the window, my watch seems to be picking up the signal fine from my bedside cabinet.

Two things to note. When I received mine it was on German time (you need to set time zone for radio control time signal) and setting it to UK meant it was an hour slow initially. Reason for this? It had last picked up a time signal when we were using GMT and not BST so the watch was still on GMT and a hour slow. Simple fix was to leave the watch alone all day and left it that night to pick up the time signal and it reset itself to BST UK time.

Second thing is the buckle/clasp on the strap. Nowhere near as good or thick as my old one, and considering the strength of the watch, the strap is a real weak point and might break in time. Looks like a metal clasp from the standard Casio watches rather than the thick ones used previously on G-Shock.

Great watch, good design but weak strap. Buy it anyway, and maybe invest in a spare strap.

Great watch. Very comfy to wear. I use it to set all other watches. It's a great and affordable watch.
Solar power means ease of use. Leave it in the dark and it will turn off the display but still keep time.
Atomic means that every night it will synchronize with an atomic clock near to your geographic location. No more need to adjust summer-winter time too.
For the rest...just as good as any other BUT it adds name, tons of toughness and tons of looks!

I love these Casio GW-6900 watches. They are super tough, not flashy and perfect for outdoor sports, (e.g. mountain biking, climbing etc.). I've likened it to the Land Rover Defender as these watches just do what you need without flashy extras that rarely get used!

This particular model is radio-controlled meaning if you're in range of the transmitter the timekeeping is spot-on. Even without syncing to the atomic clock regularly the watch only gains or looses a second or so a month, (as I found when I left the UK for six months). The watch has all the functions you really need including time, day and date, stopwatch, world time and countdown timer. The alarm and hourly time signal are pretty hopeless as they're almost inaudible - don't rely on this watch's alarm to wake you in the morning!

I believe Casio are going to stop making this model soon so if you want one get on and buy it.

The GW-6900 model was on my wanted list for some time so when it became available I simply had to have it.
I collect G-Shock watches and this is one of the THE classic G-Shock shapes. It's a radio controlled, solar powered variation of the classic DW-6900 model.
One of my favourite models of my collection, it's got it all.
Multi-band 6 radio controlled time keeping. Solar powered. World Time. Multiple Alarms, Stop watch. Count down timer.
Setup is easy as usual.
I like the digital display as it's large and clear.
You can display world time and home city time simultaneously.
The three round displays help keep the watch face neat giving you all the details you need.
I love the plain black colour and along with the rugged strap and watch face with the classic smaller round push buttons it's a must have for any collector or as the perfect watch for anyone looking at an all rounder.
The time keeping is 100% accurate.
What I like about this model and my own personal collection of G-Shock watch models is that they each feature Solar powered and Radio controlled time keeping (these are my favourite features). Effectively this means that providing you keep it charged up, you should never have to worry about battery changes, servicing costs, time keeping accuracy, daylight saving time changes etc.
What more do you need in a watch? G-Shocks have a massive fan base and you can see why....there is a model for all tastes.

I wanted a watch which I could wear without worrying about dinging when doing outdoor activities.
But I knew I wanted solar powered to cut down on battery changing.
A G-shock came to mind as soon as I thought of 'toughness' so that's what I got.

This is very good value indeed, considering it is solar powered and 100% accurate due to the radio time signal.

It is light and very comfy to wear. The case is rubbery so will take a lot of rough treatment.

A couple of things stop me giving it a 5 star review though.
1) I find the time a bit dark to see sometimes. The contrast of the black on the grey lcd, and it seeming to be deep set make it not that great to see when inside the house during the day (when backlight won't help). I am finding watches with hands much easier to tell the time with.

2) Slightly annoyed that we are stuck with American MM-YY date format - how hard can it be to have a switch to make it DD-MM?
