Casio G-Shock Quartz Watch with Black Dial Analogue - Digital Display and Black Resin Strap AWG-M100B-1AER

I couldn't decide between this watch and the AWG-101-1AER which retails for about £10 less. This watch is the newer model and supports 6 radio bands while the older model supports 5 radio bands. The newer model has a feature to move the hands so you can see the circular displays.

I've currently got a Casio Sea-Pathfinder watch which was too big and heavy. This watch is 1cm smaller in diameter and about a 1/3 of the weight. My previous G-Shock (which went missing at a large Swedish furniture store in Warrington) had a similar feel, but the strap wasn't as nice as this watch. This strap is nice and supple.

I do like a good complain though... Like most Casio watches, the date format is MM/DD and not DD/MM. The reverse LCD (white on black) can be difficult to see in certain light, but the white hands are quite visible. While the G-Shock watches are (almost) impossible to break, experience says it's usually the watch strap that will break first.

This is one of the first Solar + Waveceptor G-Shocks I'm happy with wearing in leisure time and also suitable for the office. Being a G-Shock it can handle being thrown around the house by my 2 and 4 year olds.

As a G-Shock watch collector I wanted to foray into the AWG range and decided to go for this model.
What attracted me was the almost 'stealth' like looks. The black strap, dark grey face, gunmetal bezel and chrome edges to the dials and accents give it a unique look. The negative display works very well with the watch colour combination too. I love it!
The watch is very easy to set up and as always once you have chosen your 'Home City' and performed the 'Manual receive' with Daylight Saving time you do not need to touch the watch again for time adjustment.
The dials are quite small and the display in each of them is small too so I would not recommend this watch to people who want a large display.
However, being an ana/digi model the two hands (hour and minute only) do a good enough job of displaying the time and in 'power saving' mode the hands move showing the correct time while the digital displays turn off until exposed to light again.
My only gripe is the stopwatch display is small. The left hand dial displaying the minute and seconds with the bottom dial displaying tenth of second increments. The watch does have a nice little feature in that if the hour/minute hands cover of the digital dials you wish to view you can move the hands out of the way until you have finished and then return them back to their original position. Neat.
The watch is certainly a nice looking watch and can easily be worn for both formal or casual occasions. It's a nice weight and being quite a small size compared to some G-Shock models this might appeal to more people. Of course being a G-Shock means it is tough and waterproof too.

This is a good looking watch, but doesn't lack on functionality. In my opinion it has everything you could ever want for those who aren't running up mountains or diving in the Atlantic shelf everyday, i.e. the vast majority of us.

- Solar powered and radio controlled.
- Analogue hands, with digital dials which display the date, seconds, and day.
- No set up, bar confirming your time zone (which came as London as default), and turning on Daylight Savings Time.

Little points to consider before buying:
- The style of the watch is very stealth-like, so if you someone who wants an abundantly clear white faced watch with black hands, this is not for you. The face is quite dark, and the led light is the most powerful, but perfectly adequate for myself. Also, the number markers aren't glow in the dark - just the hands.
- The dials are small, so if you're eyesight is poor it's probably best to avoid. However I feel it's a fair forfeit considering it's stylish design and amazing functionality.

All in all, I'm very impressed - especially for the price.

P.S. Have only had for a few days, so cannot comment on longevity but come-on... it's G-Shock. If anything's going to last it'll be this!
