4.0 out of 5 stars If it's good enough for the RAF skiing team... 11 July 2012
By Purple Ferret VINE VOICE
The GW-4000 is (as of July 2012) the latest progression in Casio's "Aviator" line of G-shock watches. If you're reading this and interested in this watch you probably don't need me to tell you that G-shocks have developed a bit of cult following since the first was released in the early eighties, and the current line up contains a variety of shapes and sizes to fit most tastes and budgets. The "Aviator" form a collection of G-shocks claiming to have high contrast, easily visible legends for viewing in the conditions of extreme lighting or high workload such as pilots may sometimes experience(!). The feature set would also support the active, international lifestyle that clearly appeals to us "jet setters".

The feature set of this watch is impressive. It supports Casio's six band radio controlled time regulation, meaning that if you're in Western Europe, the USA, Japan or China the watch should adjust itself automatically every day to show the precise time. Outside of that it reverts to the "usual" +/-15 secs a month. You also get a chronograph (accurate to 100th second if your "operating finger" is that reliable!), a world time function (dual time zone basically) and alarm functions. It's solar powered, so you'll never need to change a battery.

By comparison to it's predecessors in the "Aviator" range I believe that this model has a somewhat lager face, offset by a slightly slimmer case. The case provides all the usual G-shock protection, depth rated to 200M and this model has also been subjected to the dizzying limits of sustaining 15G (hopefully I'll not be testing that) and to prove the point Casio have used the RAF skiing team to promote this model, which I'm sure will be reassuring to know!

5.0 out of 5 stars RAF g shock - perfect! 27 Oct 2013
This is my 3rd G Shock, and this is by far the most luxury G I have owned or seen..

This is well worth it's price, but note some jewellery sites like watch shop.com have this on sale for 400-450!

It's features are:

15G g-force proof -RAF tested and approved,
200m water proof - I'm a scuba diver and can say I've taken mine to 128m and still works perfectly!
World time
Atomic multiband 6 - auto time update anywhere in the world
Solar powered- no need to ever open the watch
Highly illuminous - neo bright lume
Sapphire crystal mineral glass - scratch proof
24 hour indicator
Day if the week indicator
Auto calendar
Battery indicator

All in all, this is the perfect, all action everyday watch you can wear with a shirt and suit, and also to wear out as it looks expensive, feels expensive and still does it's job whatever you throw at it!!!

It's hard to summarise this, but this really is a perfect watch for any man.

Always getting compliments when wearing it, and the black stainless ion pvd strap it's really comfortable and string! It's scratch resistant too which means don't be worried about the strap getting silver scratches all over it..

For the price I would recommend to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning watch 15 Aug 2013
I have been a long time fan of G shocks - see my other reviews.

But I have always wanted an analogue, solar and radio controlled one. This ticks all the boxes and looks absolutely stunning!

I managed to get this off the Bay for the bargain price of 260 delivered. I am well chuffed as this has an RRP of 400.

Cracking watch. As soon as I took it out the box the hands miraculously moved to the EXACT time.

Great watch - buy one if you love G shocks and accuracy. Tip* - Look on the bay as I managed to get for 260 which is pretty good IMO!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellnt Watch 20 July 2013
Verified Purchase
Really pleased with my purchase so far (4 days and counting). Wasn't difficult to set up at all - follow the instructions and that's it - took me all of 5 minutes. Great looking watch as well.

Had some problems reading the smaller dials etc but this encouraged me to go for a long over due eye test - got a new prescription and can now read the dial without problems (my eye sights problem - not the watch).

5.0 out of 5 stars More mature g-shock 25 April 2013
By Michael
Verified Purchase
Sometimes you don't want a digital readout on your watch because it can look 'cheap'. This g-shock looks to me a more mature evolution of this great brand. I would say that you can wear this watch just as comfortably with cufflinks & suit as with a polo shirt - it just looks classy, robust and a real mans watch!
Add to this it self adjusts to always keep perfect time/date, recharges itself, and it becomes an exceptional timekeeping device (never mind its legendary toughness, heritage and smart black metal strap).
Some may say the stopwatch that only goes to 24mins is a negative, as is the lack of back light. It also does not have a calculator, compass or altimeter. So please do not purchase this watch if you positively have to time something over 24 mins in pitch blackness; you may become enraged.
