I'm an engineer and I need an advanced calculator that works in a simple logical way but I don't need programme functionality as we have computers these days. I've had this Casio for 10 years or more and it has worked faithfully throughout and is still going strong despite abuse - I've not had any batteries either. I have not found another that has the range of functions combined with no-nonsense functionality. You want to do arithmetic - just press the keys - you don't have to write an equation every time as, infuriatingly, with some modern calculators!

I got this to replace my old Casio FX 82. I needed a calculator that can convert fractions into decimals (a b/c). The FX 992 fills all of my calculator needs and many more.
The readout can be a little hard to see at some angles but is OK in real world use.
12 + 2 digit readout is also useful.

Great calculator with all of the necessary functions, particularly for exams, where there are restrictions on the type of calculator you can use.

Scientific calculator. Does all the usual sin, cos, tan functions plus x^y, fractions and lots of other things. Not programmable - who cares, it's easier to use a computer than a programmable calculator. Solar powered, works in any reasonable light conditions. Buttons feel nice, display is clear. You would need to be Einstein or a calculator geek to want anything more than this. Will last forever and it's reasonably priced. Winner.

Can't stand the modern ones in the shops with all the joystick buttons.
Bought it because it looks like a calculator and works like the last one I had.

This is an excellent calculator. Simple to use and seems to run on daylight, which is amazing as I'm a structural engineer who does sums for a living. I'm just about to buy my third one, cos every other one I've tried has loads of memories that take multiple key presses to use - so annoying when I need just one memory that is quick to use. Buy it if you are not taking your GCSE's!

I am too an Engineer and have had this calculator for many years.
Its good for converting between HEX,DEC and BIN which I do daily. Also for sin, cos etc. The memory functions are easy to use too. Its got a lot of functions and is very easy to use. Also able to express values in engineering notation (i.e. every 3rd power E+09,E+06,E+03,E-03,E-06,E-09 etc....) and move up and down the scale.
Anything more complex, I use my PCs installation of MatLab.

Unfortunetly it dissapeared from my desk at work. So I purchased one of the new modern CASIO FX115 which was very disapointing. e.g. With the FX115 I was able to add a number to memory, but unable to recall the memory value. Also converting between bases (HEX,BIN etc was difficult).

So it was good to see that I could buy the Casio FX992 again, as its a doddle to use!
