I searched and searched for cameras online and was told the more megapixels the better by friends. So i decided to get one 8 megapixels or above. The casio EX-Z1050 seemed a great price on amazon for a camera with 10.1 mp and looking at other review sites it always came out on top when compared with others at that price/quality. I had seen it on other websites for double the price too so at under £120 it was a bargain!
The camera arrived and after a quick battery charge i was ready to go. It is very easy to use and took no time to get the hang of the menu etc. The quality is fantastic and when i uploaded the images to my laptop i was very happy with them.
I wanted a camera for general use, nothing to arty farty just a good all round camera that took great pictures, looked stylish and didnt cost an arm and a leg....and thats what i got and im very pleased!

Bought this camera about a week ago, and so far very pleased with the results. Nice bright screen, easy to use controls and the menu buttons/icons on the RH side of the view-finder as you take photos are very useful. Dosen't seems to be a way to manually adjust the shutters speed etc, is all managed by Casio's Best-Shot software, which is acessible via a single button.

Unfortunately video is limited to 10mins, but hopefully this will be removed via a firmware update from Casio like the ex-z850. Usually 10 mins is more than enough thought.

Camera comes with a separate battery charger, not a docking station, which is useful in some respects, (i.e. you can charge one battery whilst using the camera with another battery), however if you remove the battery from the camera to charge it, it forgets the time/date, (but not your preferences/selected sounds etc?), which you consequently have to set each time the battery is removed.

The best shot settings do seem to give good results, although you can't help wondering if manual 'tweaking' of the shutter speed, ISO etc could possibly give better results.

There is a manual WB setting, (adjusts contrast, exposure etc), which can be good in low light. One feature that the EX-Z850 had was a AF assist light which doubled as a 'movie light' as in many mobile phones to allow videos to be taken in the dark. A small difference, (the LED is now orange and cannot be used as a 'movie light'), but may be of concern to some.

Self-timer function has a multiple setting, chose from 2 or 10 second delay for the first picture, and then take 2 more consecutive pictures with about 2 second intervals. ie, if someone blinks or falls over you can choose the best of the three, which I think is a really good idea.

Feels very well made and has a nice metal case, (although in my opinion it would look better in a brushed aluminium finish...). SD HC support also means you can use 4GB memory cards (8GB are avaliable but apparently the camera is only compatible with upto 4GB - which I have ordered but have yet to test performance...)

Would recommend to anyone who's looking to get a digi cam for around £150, or even £250. It's not an SLR, but its very very good.

I thought I'd write a review to help anyone who may be thinking about buying this camera. I own the gold version of the casio z1050. It's smaller than I anticipated (a good thing!) which means it can fit into little handbags/pockets etc easily. Although it's not the smallest casio on the market (ie the casio s770) it is still very small and can fit into the average person's palm quite easily and is not very thick. The camera screen is also massive and dominates the back of the camera. I'm very happy with my choice as I was stuck between the casio s770 and this one (I don't think I would of liked one any smaller because it would just be a bit too flimsy).

The picture quality is excellent and clear. I'm not the most technical person and found the camera easy to operate. Great slideshow options, and over 30 best shot modes that are useful.

My only downside is that the battery has to be removed to be charged, which may mean that you lose any settings you have made (but I'm not entirely sure because I haven't had to recharge yet!). The battery has lasted ages so far (I've been using it every day for a week and it has not gone down at all - still full).

There are lots of other features that I won't bore you with! If you want to know more just ask!

I've never given a review before so it might not be very useful. I'm just an average photo taker and no professional! I just wanted to give a review because I'm happy not many people have reviwed it!
