Manufacturer's Description

The CASIO EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z1050, is the latest exciting addition to CASIO's stylish series of EXILIM ZOOM digital cameras. The EX-Z1050 captures images of remarkably high quality for its very compact size, and its wide-format Super Bright LCD display gives users the power to enjoy instant, high-impact images of their shots.

The new EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z1050 packs a powerful punch in a sleek, compact package. Small enough to be held in the palm of the hand, this 10.1 megapixel digital camera still captures super high-resolution images that reproduce crystal-clear even in very large sizes - perfect for printing or on-screen viewing of those priceless, once-in-a-lifetime shots. This new model continues the trend of its predecessor by incorporating a large 2.6 inch, wide and bright LCD display. CASIO makes the most of this extra screen space to offer great functions like simultaneous viewing of a wide angle and a telephoto shot, and a convenient right side set of icon controls.

The EX-Z1050 has an effective 10.1 million pixels, powered by a large 1/1.75 inch format, high resolution CCD. Add the new EXILIM Engine 2.0 high-performance image processor, and the camera delivers highly expressive images and reproduces a wide tonal range.

The EX-Z1050's LCD display is a large, crystal clear 2.6 inch monitor in an attractive wide format. This LCD displays images and data with outstanding clarity and fine detail. The EX-Z1050's wide and bright display makes viewing in bright outdoor light easier than ever before.

Since the moment of its debut in 2002, the EXILIM series has been transforming the digital camera market. EXILIM cameras are slim and stylish, packed with superior functionality, and astonishingly easy to use. Users appreciate EXILIM's unique combination of compact size, intuitive controls, large displays, and long battery life. The latest models in the series continues to break new ground, with the recent introduction of functions like motion analysis technology, Anti Shake DSP, which reduces blurring due to unsteady hands or moving subjects, and the Super Bright display.

Bought this camera about a week ago, and so far very pleased with the results. Nice bright screen, easy to use controls and the menu buttons/icons on the RH side of the view-finder as you take photos are very useful. Dosen't seems to be a way to manually adjust the shutters speed etc, is all managed by Casio's Best-Shot software, which is acessible via a single button.

Unfortunately video is limited to 10mins, but hopefully this will be removed via a firmware update from Casio like the ex-z850. Usually 10 mins is more than enough thought.

Camera comes with a separate battery charger, not a docking station, which is useful in some respects, (i.e. you can charge one battery whilst using the camera with another battery), however if you remove the battery from the camera to charge it, it forgets the time/date, (but not your preferences/selected sounds etc?), which you consequently have to set each time the battery is removed.

The best shot settings do seem to give good results, although you can't help wondering if manual 'tweaking' of the shutter speed, ISO etc could possibly give better results.

There is a manual WB setting, (adjusts contrast, exposure etc), which can be good in low light. One feature that the EX-Z850 had was a AF assist light which doubled as a 'movie light' as in many mobile phones to allow videos to be taken in the dark. A small difference, (the LED is now orange and cannot be used as a 'movie light'), but may be of concern to some.

Self-timer function has a multiple setting, chose from 2 or 10 second delay for the first picture, and then take 2 more consecutive pictures with about 2 second intervals. ie, if someone blinks or falls over you can choose the best of the three, which I think is a really good idea.

Feels very well made and has a nice metal case, (although in my opinion it would look better in a brushed aluminium finish...). SD HC support also means you can use 4GB memory cards (8GB are avaliable but apparently the camera is only compatible with upto 4GB - which I have ordered but have yet to test performance...)

Would recommend to anyone who's looking to get a digi cam for around £150, or even £250. It's not an SLR, but its very very good.

I thought I'd write a review to help anyone who may be thinking about buying this camera. I own the gold version of the casio z1050. It's smaller than I anticipated (a good thing!) which means it can fit into little handbags/pockets etc easily. Although it's not the smallest casio on the market (ie the casio s770) it is still very small and can fit into the average person's palm quite easily and is not very thick. The camera screen is also massive and dominates the back of the camera. I'm very happy with my choice as I was stuck between the casio s770 and this one (I don't think I would of liked one any smaller because it would just be a bit too flimsy).

The picture quality is excellent and clear. I'm not the most technical person and found the camera easy to operate. Great slideshow options, and over 30 best shot modes that are useful.

My only downside is that the battery has to be removed to be charged, which may mean that you lose any settings you have made (but I'm not entirely sure because I haven't had to recharge yet!). The battery has lasted ages so far (I've been using it every day for a week and it has not gone down at all - still full).

There are lots of other features that I won't bore you with! If you want to know more just ask!

I've never given a review before so it might not be very useful. I'm just an average photo taker and no professional! I just wanted to give a review because I'm happy not many people have reviewed it!

When I first purchased this camera I was so impressed with it-easy to use, great pictures etc etc,I told everyone how good it was.Now 7 months down the line it doesnt take photos in daylight-they are just white-and despite having a two year guarantee neither Casio or Amazon are interested in replacing it-even though it has been declared faulty by an independant camera store-or helping me out in any way.Dont even think about it!!!!!!!!!!1
