Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The CASIO EXILIM HI-ZOOM EX-V7, is the World's slimmest digital camera with a 7x optical zoom lens, bringing large zoom capability to CASIO's stylish EXILIM series for the first time. Thinness is a defining quality of the EXILIM line, and the EX-V7 is no different as it easily fits in a shirt pocket or small purse.

In recent years, a number of compact, high-performance digital cameras have appeared on the market, but there was always a trade-off between zoom power and camera size. Users who wanted to capture subjects at a distance have had to buy bulkier cameras. Others have made the hard choice to sacrifice zoom for portability.

The new EXILIM Hi-Zoom EX-V7 solves this problem, giving users the best of both worlds. It packs a cutting-edge, non-protruding 7x optical zoom lens in the same stylish body and compact size that people expect of any CASIO EXILIM. At last, an exceptionally portable, great-looking digital camera with a powerful zoom lens - just what the world has been waiting for.

The latest model also introduces mechanical CCD shift technology to the range. It combines with CASIO's Anti Shake DSP, which reduces blur from shaky hands or a moving subject by using higher ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds, and new motion analysis technology that uses the most appropriate ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to capture a moving photo subject. New motion analysis technology built into the new EXILIM Engine 2.0, even at high zoom settings, reduces most occurrences of image blur. From first-time photographers to seasoned pros, everyone will love this latest photographic marvel from CASIO.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware, 10 Jul 2007
I bought this camera to upgrade from a well-used and well-loved Ixus 430 (which still works perfectly well despite having been around the globe several times). In particular, the 7x zoom and good reputation of Casio led me to buy this camera. Having received and charged up the camera on a Friday, I took it out on Saturday for my mothers 70th birthday. Three shots in, an error message flashed up saying the image stabiliser had malfunctioned: the manual basically said this was terminal. Having sent the camera back and received a replacement (see below), I took the new camera out for my son's 4th birthday. Around 15 shots in - the same malfunction. Needless to say, I have given up on the Casio and have now purchased a new Ixus. It may just be that I have experienced a "bad batch" however I would urge potential buyers to research around before buying this camera in light of my experiences.

One further comment - for the pictures I did manage to take, the camera performed extremely poorly in low light. My old Ixus performed much, much better in the same venue last year. All in all, a bad experience, and I don't have photos from two important family gatherings.

On a positive note, the service from Amazon was excellent. Having notified them on a Saturday, the replacement camera arrived on Tuesday and returning the faulty camera was easy with the prepaid postage label. Definitely worth thinking about when considering whether to save £5 or so using a marketplace seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Superb, 13 Oct 2007
By D. Johnson "lightsguydave" (newcastle) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having read all the other reviews before buying this product, I tried it out at a wedding recently with some trepidation. The results were simply wonderful. the resolution is sharp without being contrasty and the interface is simple and so flexible. The modes provided give the simplicity of auto (or even a "simple" mode!!!) and the in depth control of a fully manual mode allowing you to control the aperture, the shutter speed, the ISO, the flash intensity and even focus manually.

The macro mode and the "best shot" mode stood out as well. Macro shots were sharp and well defined and the colour depth was maintained even at such a short focal length. "Best Shot" mode is just something special. Choose your scenario (from over 30) and the camera will adjust it's settings accordingly for your convenience.

On a more basic level; it has a great megapixel rating, an insane zoom and a really long life battery. The SDHC compatibility means I no longer have to worry about running out of space and the dock just compliments the camera perfectly. It comes with all the relevant cables and so on... Even the packaging and box look cool.

To sum up; a wonderful camera and a beautiful piece of engineering I can find no fault with. I hereby award this camera 10 cookies out of a potential 10

4.0 out of 5 stars Also had the "fatal" message, 4 Sep 2007
By J. M. Carr (North England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this camera recently and used it for about a week. I loved it until I also had the "fatal" message on the screen. I am waiting for it to come back from Casio. I can't wait to use it again though. The zoom on it was as good as a small, portable pair of binoculars, seeing things with it that I couldn't see with the naked eye (in my case, rock climbers way off in the distance) it was great. The videos are great quality for a still camera.
