One for the fans, the 4CD hardback edition is a lovely piece of merchandise - for the quality of the product, liner notes and photos alone. As you would expect for a remix compilation (this is an expanded edition of the original 2CD release), not everything is essential and there are a few duffers - but overall this is splendid stuff; a remix timeline, befitting a British pop institution. Note: the 4CD release has an online code to download an additional batch of remixes - which are well worth the bandwidth.
Saint Etienne, we salute you (again)!

I really wanted to like his compilation (both the 2CD and 4CD versions), but in all honestly, some of these remixes sound dated, and several of them are just boring. Perhaps a better option is the 2CD version of "Too Young to Die" singles compilation from 1995 which includes a second disc featuring some of the better remixes of the early singles.

P.S. if anyone has figured out how to access the additional material with the 4CD version, can you please let me know? Neither the band, their label nor the software provider can be bothered to help.

Including the download (another disc's worth can be downloaded with disc 1 in your drive) material, it's more than 6 hours and 20 minutes. I suppose at least 2.5 hours ranges from quite good to excellent, an a lot of the rest is interesting. Not being much into trance, eurocheese, or drum 'n bass, I can immediately chop an hour off for my iPod, and much is dated, but some of it it, indeed, Casino Classics.

This release caps the St. Etienne reissue campaign, and what a way to go. Identical in format and design to the deluxe edition of London Conversations - with the exception of the 4 discs in this collection being housed inside the covers - this is superb. Not only do you get 44 remastered mixes, but you can also download another 10!
Bob, Pete and Sarah should be proud: they've managed to collate and present a body of work in a way very few bands get to do.

This is a wonderful compilation. It is also NOT your standard remix set. It is a collection of modern electronica from euro-house, to dub, to dubstep, to weird scratchy noises (looking at you Aphex Twin). There are a few standard remixes with the long intro, most of the song then a long instrumental, but the majority of tracks often just pick a phrase from the original then riff on that for 7 minutes.
You may be wondering why you need 3 versions of Like a Motorway, or Only Love. Well, the versions are completely different - as similar as Atmosphere by Joy Division, Russ Abbott and on the planet Jupiter. Actually, for the Chemical Brothers track, I wouldn't be surprised if they had never heard the original and just worked from the phrase Like A Motorway and created a Chemical classic.
Recommended. On par with my other favourite collection Remixed by Sarah McLachlan.
