Chris Difford's latest release sees Chris writing some of the best songs of his career, looking back at his childhood is a familiar theme and his songs about his wayward lifestyle are a joy - middle age never sounded so good. Highly recommended.

Reflections of Ones Life 28 April 2012

I have been a Squeeze fan since Squeeze Incorporated. They have gone through some changes in band members through the years. Ever Since "Tempted" came out in 1981. Chris wrote the lyrics but Paul Carrack sang the lead. He also released the song on one of his albums. I was fortunate to see them in concert about 5 years ago. I could not believe that Squeeze was going local. It was one of the best concerts I have seen. This is a strong album. Instead of being written from the mind of a young adult about women and relationships gone wrong, analysis of characters, mostly women, lots of songs about broken relationships. (Difford and Squeeze Inc. have the ability to write a song and tell a story in 4 minutes or less. Listen to "Annie Get Your Gun" "Striking Matches" "Separate Beds" "Up the Junction". The music is great but the story lines are "Some FANTASTIC (Place)", or I should say GREAT.) He takes the approach on Cashmere about reminiscing about the past.
If you know Squeeze or Chris, you will be happy with this album. It is an effort that as an artist he writes for his fans. Not trying to win over any new ones. But if you are a bit tired of what is being passed over as music from the recording industry demographic study on target audiences viewing music as a disposable item. This is not for you.

A worthy companion for your Squeeze collection 8 Oct 2011

This album knocked me out on the very first listen which is a rare thing in my experience. I think this is Chris Difford's best solo work to date and strongly recommend it to any long time Squeeze fan. I also think fans of early John Cale or "Trains period" Robyn Hitchcock would like this album .

I remember some one saying long ago, that when the Beatles broke up "now it means that I'll get four records a year instead of one"
This thinking can be applied to Squeeze to a certain extent. Now we get two high quality records at a time from both Difford and Tillbrook. While nothing would make me happier than to see them work together again, the level of quality that they bring to their work comes close to compensating, and this record is no exception. Difford makes no concesstions to trends, just makes beautiful melodic pop music, just as he has done in one way shape or form for over thirty years. Here's to another thirty...at the very least. If you like good music, you'll like this record, plain and simple.
