Having discovered the Spiritual Crisis Network thru my Psychotherapist, i soon became aware of this book. It opened doors like never before and made me realise i wasn't 'insane' after all. It was utterly vital in my personal navigation thru my own spiritual crisis. It includes important details on how to deal with such an event, and with the knowledge that i was not alone in my inner turmoil, brought about great re-assurance. The most important aspect that i learned from this book is that it is the death of the 'ego' that one experiences in such crises and not literally yourself. This was the cataylst to my recovery. Please read this book with care, as it can be quite disturbing if you are in the throws of spiritual crisis yourself, although it definately saved me from many more years of psychriatric care. This book may be your life saver. Further reading would be The Stormy Self. Buy it !

This book is really an all-encompassing commentary on a subject that is becoming more and more important to our world. Lucas weaves personal experience with practical advice on surviving a brush with the numinous. She also brings many important historical elements to the table, from both the modern and ancient worlds, and Eastern and Western traditions. She is succinct and to the point. I can't wait for her next work!

In Case of Spiritual Emergency is a very powerful tool for understanding mental crisis from a higher perspective as a potential avenue for spiritual breakthrough. It details tremendous stories both contemporary and from history about how even the very best of us are tried and tempered by the fires of our own inner darkness in our lives and how we can emerge all the better for the experience on the other side if only we can have the understanding, patience and safety needed to get through it.
In an age when we over medicate every problem, it is nice to know that there are responsible people like this author that are able to provide a uniquely compassionate and very useful perspective on the process of spiritual emergency and awakening.
I highly recommend this book.
