Review

"The Case of the Missing Boyfriend is a bittersweet, bang-up-to-date take on the eternal quest for love."
-- Rupert Smith (author of Man's World).

"This deft novel will delight readers." --Book Marks - March 2011

"A book that will appeal not only to women, it will also strike hard at the hearts of gay men and all of their friends - chic lit with intelligence." --Alex Hopkins, Out There Magazine, March 2011

Product Description

C.C. is nearly forty and other than her name (which she hates so much she can't bring herself to use it) everything about her life appears to be wonderful: she has a high powered job in advertising, a great flat in Primrose Hill, and a wild bunch of friends to spend her weekends with.

And yet she feels like the Titanic - slowly, inexorably, and against all expectation, sinking.

For despite her indisputable success, C.C. would rather be shovelling shit on a farm than selling it to the masses - would rather be snuggling on the sofa with The Missing Boyfriend than playing star fag-hag in London's latest coke-spots.

But opportunities to find Thee Missing Boyfriend are rarer than an original metaphor, and CC's body-clock is ticking so loudly that at times she can barely hear her mother wittering on about her own Moroccan boyfriend.
Could her best friend be right? Could her past really be preventing her from moving on? And if she unlocks that particular box, will the horrors within simply drift away and leave her free? Or will they sink her?

If she can shake off the past and learn to trust again, will she stop attracting freaks and find The Missing Boyfriend? Or will she just end up tethered and gagged at the bottom of the stairs?

This was the first book by the author I have read, and I will definately move on to some of his other titles. The characters are all well formed and thought out, and I liked that the story wasn't predictable and has many happy and sad twists and turns.

I would love there to be a sequel to find out what happens next, it is well worth paying for and I would whole-heartedly recommend the book.

I've read all of Mr Alexander's novels (I think!) and loved every single one of them. The Case of the Missing Boyfriend is no exception! CC, the main character, is quite a gal with a great job, lovely flat in London, fabulous friends (gay and straight), an out-of-control mother and a loyal pussycat at home who often appears to be her only source of comfort in a wildly disturbing world of mad parties, (kinky) business trips abroad and speed-dating. However, CC has had quite a few knockbacks where men are concerned and with her biological clock ominously ticking, all she really wants to do is settle down with the right man, move to the country and live the good life. But, the main ingredient (the boyfriend!) is of course missing from her life and continues to elude her despite her friends' constant encouragement to forget her hangups about casual sex and to seize any opportunity whilst she still can. Often hilarious, often rather sad and poignant, but always entertaining, this is another wonderfully crafted story full of interesting characters who come alive to such a degree that you feel as if you have just taken part in a scene yourself. Incredible! Does CC find that elusive perfect man? Will her mother marry that 23 year old Moroccan toy boy? Can her best friend Mark make it work with Ian? Will Danny ever recover from his depression? Read the book and find out. You won't be disappointed.

Witty and well written! 25 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A few days ago I read No Cure for the Broken Hearted and thought that the author should have told the story from a male perspective because I didn't think that he did the female perspective with enough authenticity. Nick Alexander on the other hand does the female perspective incredibly well. I got this book free (I grab all free books and read them when I have the time) and I perhaps wouldn't have bought it even though it is now only cheaply priced as I hadn't read the author's work before. I'm so glad I snapped it up when I did because I would have missed a fantastic book!

Nick writes CC's character with an astonishing sensitivity. He captures the hope, dreams and fears of woman at a pivotal point in her life as though he has experienced these issues himself. I can relate especially to anger CC feels on receiving news of her ex and his new family, when he had always insisted that he had never wanted a family and she had stifled her own inclinations and wishes to keep him happy.

Yet another great author I have discovered through cheap and free Kindle books.
