The signs are good, both singles 'Call America' and 'Calling For Love' have been excellent and show an exciting diversity. Expect fantastic production, sumptuous, haunting vocals and melodic hooks. Add this one to your wish-list and brag to your friends how you heard about Madam first.

Reveal Records (home to Joan As Police Woman, Kris Drever, Lau... et al) will be releasing the debut album by MADAM on March 3rd 2008.

The project of raven haired hustler Sukie Smith, MADAM make music for outlaws, cowboys and glamour girls.

I first heard Madam playing a sparse live set, the guitar and cello accompaniment was enough to convince me of the beauty of Sukie Smith's voice and songwriting. The recorded album is considerably more lavishly arranged but maintains something of the delicacy and vulnerability of the versions I heard first.

There seems to be quite a range of musicians and producers accross the album but it feels consistently rich and textured in a way that supports the central vocal. I think my own highlight in the production is "Dirty That Makes Me" the way the drums come in from nowhere hits me every time. The whole thing has a great sound.

Overall, the experience really is lovely, but the real beauty comes in the songs themselves, there's quite a lot there and I've got a feeling it's going to reward repeat listens for quite a while.
