Product Description

"The first time I saw Betty she was bouncing. She kept on bouncing right up until the day she died. Why she died was no more important than why she bounced. Because when I found out why Betty bounced, I found out why she died."--Ed Noon, Private Eye

<>Ed Noon gets mixed up with a 400-lb mattress tester, a gangster, and a pile of dead bodies in one of his wackiest capers.<>

How many kinds of trouble can a girl get into on a mattress? Plenty... and Ed Noon thought he knew them all until he met Betty. For Betty was a mattress tester and she'd just bounced herself into a situation that had sent bullets whizzing about her ears and strangers haunting her footsteps. And that was the kind of trouble that called for a private eye like Ed Noon. Before he could bounce her out of it, he'd have to help her test a double-bed made for the morgue!

ED NOON SERIES

The Adventures of Ed Noon, Private Eye, span over 30 novels written between 1953 and 1990. Noon starts out dirt poor with a tiny office in Midtown Manhattan (his "Mouse Auditorium") but success moves him to better digs, a lovely secretary (Melissa Mercer) and, eventually, the most important client of all: the President of the United States. The series concludes with a daring turn toward science fiction in the last two novels. Through it all, the wisecracking Noon is consistent: a movie and baseball-obsessed romantic who always fights the good fight. And, more often than not, wins.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm all out of popcorn and I'm not waiting around for the cartoon. So shut up and listen. 18 Sep 2012

Ed Noon doesn't know it , but he's headed for a years vacation, no gun no ticket to snoop. Betty Heck is a mattress tester, she has no enemies and at 440 Lbs she has no rivals but someone still wants her dead. She works for sleep-tite mattress company. Sleep-tite makes mattresses so why would the owner manager Bart Artel be negotiating with the notorious gangster Bim Ceaser. Bart is murdered right in Ed's mouse auditorium of an office and Bim didn't do it. The shot could only of come from the roof of the Chop Suey place across the street. So Ed's got a Dead body, a gangster, a mattress tester and an unknown killer with an unknown purpose. Sleep-tite's in ashes, Betty's dead, the cops want Noon and Ed can only run. Run fast, solve the case fast and take his lumps.

Well written tale with engaging characters. Situations a little darker a little grittier and maybe a little more realistic. Hard boiled and enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked on Ed Noon. 6 Oct 2012

Do you like the stories of "private eye" detectives from the 1930's, 40's and 50'? You will love these books. Ed Noon sounds a little like Spade, or maybe Marlowe. And, the story line has all the bad guys, the women and the police from yesterday. Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Mystery 6 Dec 2012

This is my second Ed Noon mystery and I enjoyed this one too. It's written in a humorous noirish style. Such a contrast between being "hard bitten" and downright funny. Bouncing Betty is a 440 lb woman who tests mattresses. Someone is trying to kill her and she hires Ed Noon to protect her. But her boss busts in and tries to buy Ed off so he won't investigate. Things get hot, literally, from there and Ed Noon solves the mystery. It was a little hard to believe that Bouncing Betty didn't know why someone was out to kill her after what we find out had happened. But the book was so much fun to read that I overlooked the stretch there.
