Having bought an out-of-print book on Swedish Carving techniques by Joggi's dad I discovered the world of spoon carving!
What seem so simple is actually immensely complicated requiring a whole spectrum of techniques and an aesthetic eye.
Having made a number of rather functional and dull spoons they gradually got better as my technique improved.
I received this video the other day and was amazed to have all the techniques I have so badly needed taught so clearly by Joggi.
The dough bowl carving with an adze and bent chisels is a joy to witness but the spoon carving second half is what I have always needed.
It is a beautiful way to spend a couple of hours on a sunny evening.

Jogge makes his craft look easy, I can assure you it is anything but. The techniques demonstrated need a lot of practice to perfect and constant vigilance to ensure you don't have an accident. Leaving aside the health and safety concerns this DVD is stuffed full of useful advice for anyone who would like to pick up an axe and work with green wood, just take it slowly. This DVD is in English not Swedish as I have seen stated in other reviews. I will refer to it many times, great DVD.

This DVD was clearly made quite a few years ago but the techniques never age. It is the sort of thing that should be on Television instead of the usual fluff that fills every channel. In short it is a pleasant time spent with a craftsman making something useful.

It isn't as long as I would have liked but it is a nice starter in carving bowls and spoons. I did enjoy Jogge explaining how to safely use an Axe while wearing open sandals.

A good DVD guide this - covers many aspects of Swedish woodenware, with plenty of in-depth techniques shown and advice given, and the best part is being able to pause / watch again if you missed a bit! Highly recommended, 4 stars.

Excellent, best money ever spent on this matter. I already had the book by the author's father and this is just the best complement as the great quality video shows you the techniques in a way the book never could.
I finally understood how to get the spoon basic shape to be functional and practical.
