About the Author

Bob Jubb started carving as a hobby whilst working as an international engineering consultant. Regularly posted abroad, he would carve wherever and whenever he could, often in hotel rooms! Now retired, and living in West Sussex, Bob is free to dedicate more time to his love of carving. He was a founder member of the Sussex Woodcraft Society (SWS), which has grown from two to about 180 members.

This book is a tremendous find for individuals interested in wood carving and in materials and methods of Japanese art. The clarity of its photographs and the inspiration they offer would be difficult to surpass. Despite its being coached for the Westerner using western tools, it elaborates traditional Japanese techniques and how to exploit them. An example would be carving the bumps on a toad's skin.
